What is the market rate for private cello teacher?

Normally how long is the class duration?

By the way, my dd is learning from her school CO. She can read the chinese score. I'm wondering if I engage a private teacher and switch her to ABSRM syllabus, would that be confusing?

Reason for switching is I would like her to sit for exam. There isn't seem to be any exam or certification ABSRM equivalent for chinese score. How do we know which grade the child has progress to? Or there is indeed an exam that I'm not aware of? Please enlighten me

        :thankyou:
As far as I know, one of the most looked-upon examination boards for chinese instruments is CCM (Central Conservatory of China). The exams are administered by NAFA (don't have to be a student there. Just register for exams like ABRSM). These scores for these exams are all in Jianpu(what you refer to as chinese score). There are grades 1 to 9 and then diploma.

However, I don't think they have exams for cello locally. I haven't seen any cello students taking exams before in the 3 exams that my son has taken at NAFA, nor any category for cello in the high-scorer awards booklet.

I doubt your child will be confused if you have her learn Wuxianpu - 5-line score and do ABRSM. Why not?

In my ds' school's CO, the cello boys learn using the Suzuki Cello books, which means they are learning the western 5-line score. I've seen the cellists in another CO that my ds is in, reading both Jianpu and Wuxianpu interchangeably. No problem at all.

You are right, Nafa does not conduct exam fo cello under Chinese instruments. Seems like the only route towards certification in Singapore is ABRSM ?

My dd does not know how to read western score. Need to learn from scratch :faint:

Cannot be too difficult. Kids learn fast. My ds1 can read both jianpu & wuxianpu bc he also played dizi. My ds2 only started off with jianpu bc he did chinese instrument first. Only started learning wuxianpu in the past year bc he is now doing grade 3 abrsm theory exam.

Later discovered Synwin which has several branches, one which is Marina Parade. Liked their stores, equipment and service. Furthermore whatever they did not have, Wayne, the outlet manager would order for me. Price wise, all quite competitive if it is cellos for beginners - paid $480 each.

Did you buy Synwin brand or other brands?
What size did you purchase? Different size different price or same price?

Where are your kids learning now? Can PM me the contact?

              Thanks for sharing 😄

Hi! I am also interested in taking up cello lessons since years ago but couldn't find a teacher up till today. I prefer having private lessons since it's more flexible.

I have some music background as I play the piano and got a grade 8 in both practical and theory. Wanted to pick up a 2nd instrument ever since my o level music classmates performed with their 2nd instruments. Are there any experienced private cello teachers to recommend?

I was given a contact for a private teacher. $80 for each lesson :!:

Exceeded our budget since my dd is only a beginner.
