Ok to carry kids' sch bags when picking them up from sch?

I think it's ok to carry bags for them, when they're a bit older, they would automatically reject your offer, cos they feel embarrassed. They dun even want you to pick them from school. So dun have to worry about training them to be independent.

My DS1 who is in S2 will carry his own bag to the car even if i offer to carry it for him.
He will offer to carry the grocery for me too.
I think as parents, if we offer to carry their bags for them when they are young, they will follow our example when they are older to help us carry things

I have been carrying my DD's bag from the car to the back gate and vice versa as their bags are just too heavy and being P1s and P2s, they are too tiny to call such a heavy load. So as far as I can minimise her load (even for that few steps), I will do so. DH and I are worried that the heavy load will cause her to slouch or hunch.
BUT, I have just decided that since she is in Pri 3 now, she should be carrying her own bag. Hence, from tomorrow onwards, she has to carry her own bag. Mornings are fine, since I drop her doorstep in school.

My P1 will insist to carry her bag, claim that it's not heavy at all. We walk to school 7 minutes by foot. Her reason - she doesn't want to burden me with her school bag. Oh so sweet :love:
My P3 shoved me her bag when she was in P1/2. Since school reopened, I refused to carry her bag for her anymore. She's still trying her luck everyday though, would tell me her bag is oh soooooooo heavy. Alamak, she's 37kg more chubby than me, I'm sure she's strong enough to carry her school bag

In view of health concern raised by vk2010 I may revert to carrying the sch bag for ds. But I’ll make sure that he carries something as well. It shouldn’t be old dad is carrying everything and ds is dancing around hands-free. Very particular dad I must be. -

Now that I send my P4 boy to sch via public tpt daily, I will carry his bag in the morning as we need to cross 2 overhead bridges. When going home, he carries it unless it is really heavy. My boy weighs only 22 kg.
Once I fetched my elder boy home, I also carried his bag after he complained of shoulder ache (that day PE was vigorious push up, chin up etc). His weight just hits 41 kg.
I am definitely more chubby that both of them :lol:
