sounds like you have big bedroom, its good, at least you can still put study table in the room :). nowadays they build bedrooms soooo small, they say family getting smaller, so dont need big apartment. hmmm doesnt make sense to me, i tot they advocating filial piety and hv more kids?
So if no extra room, then have to ask the boys to sleep in the living room, is it? ;DSAHM_TAN:
I'm alright for different gender to sleep in a room up to Pri 3. Now my 2 older kids (DD1 and DS2) sleeps with their father while I sleep with my baby because she does wake up for night feed. Once she's sleep through, we might try to sleep all together. Next phase will be all the 3 kids in one room. When DD1 is in P3, she and DD3 will be in one room while DS2 will sleep with his grandfather.
My 16+yo is sharing room with her 14yo & 11+yo brothers. -
SAHM_TAN,
We recently did that - hacked the wall, to build one more room, so now we have 4 rooms. We did that by converting 2 existing rooms, plus push out to take in some living room space, to get 3 rooms. Master bedroom remains intact.
I have 2 girls and a boy. Between the 2 girls’ rooms is a wooden bi-fold door, which acts as a partition - can close if they want more privacy, or leave it open when they want to play together or chat before sleeping. The newly created room is meant for my son, but he is still sleeping with us, so we used that as a study room now.
For study area, I prefer them to study in a common area where 3 of them are together. I kind of like this arrangement, so that it is clear that the room is for sleeping and study area is for "working". However, I noticed that my eldest prefer to do her homework on her bed. I always tell her this is very "惰性”, bad habit. Nowadays, I let her be, just no energy to keep insisting.
What do other parents think? Do you insist they do work in the study area? -
porcupine12trade:
Nope, I'm in the process of major spring cleaning. Clearing out furniture bought on newlywed high. 3 kids later, realize need to be more children centric. Also building a mini home library so need to clear space for them as well.
yes I will build bookshelves elsewhere but add hanging cabinet on top of study table for study related books. Are you moving? -
porcupine12trade:
They can say whatever they like to justify their actions. Doubt they lived in such homes, or else they would not say that there's more space per person. What nonsense. I visited my fren's home, it was like a prison, everywhere so cramp. A bed and that's it, no much place to move. I like him to visit and still tell me in the face that per person we are have more space

I like the wooden bi-fold door idea. Still need to check with HDB if we can hack the wall, if it comes to that.SAHM_TAN,

Don't have big bedroom. Build upwards. So the girl has a little bit of her own space near the ceiling. HAHAHA!!!!!!!

Yeah, the study table runs the length of the room, that's all, together with the bookshelves. -

So the bed is 3 level bunk bed?

That is a good idea!! I am also thinking how to create more space and storage for my new house. Hubby wanna get a bunk bed for the 2 gals so that we can have more space for shelves and study desks. However, I think gals will prefer to have their own beds when they are older.

Now my baby is sleeping with us, so the 3rd room will be used as a study room.
Now renovation does not come cheap..hv to plan carefully so that the usability and design can outlast for the next 5-8 yrs. By then the older kids will be be in their teens...doubt they wanna anything too childish.
