I recently joined as a volunteer here at our community since I now have lots of time because my son just started K2.

I didn't know that this will have a great impact on choosing my son's Primary School.

I haven't started any volunteer work yet, but registration for 2012 Primary is just around the corner. This is all too stressful.

      😢
Which community organisation did you volunteer with? Not all will grant you the community leaders status and hence P1 Phase 2B priority. Also, if you join only now, say in RC, it's still too late to qualify for P2B for P1 registration for 2012.

        Hi,

I am currently an active RC member under one GRC.
I am aiming a school for my kid in another GRC.
Will i enjoy the phase 2b if i were to shift address near the school outside the GRC that i am currently serving?

The below is the key noted from SCM
        ----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Grassroots Advisers, CCC, CCMC, RC, NC members can register their children at schools situated within the constituency (a GRC is treated as a single constituency)
which they are serving and/or residing.
        ----------------------------------------------------------------------------

I'm afraid not, unless you shift early enough and are able to serve a full year as EM in the GRC the school is located in. Apparently, once you shift, your service in your previous GRC cannot be carried over, and you literally start from scratch. But best to confirm this with PA.

Yep, for sure accurate because that ever crossed my mind last year.

              Hi

I have been joining RC since July 2010 and have been told that my membership is being processed and would be ready soon. Unfortunately, I am not sure whether this "Associate Member" or "Executive Member".

Can someone clarify what is the different betweem AM and EM, and whether both also qualify for the primary school letter. ?

Second, my son is born in Jan 2006. So he should be apply for primary school registration in Yr 2012 for entry in Yr 2013 - right ? If this is the case, when is the latest I should received my AM or EM to qualify for the primary school letter ?

Third, I presume that there is still a chance of not being balloted even if we manged to get into 2B balloting thru grassroot.

Please advise as this is our last resort after behind rejected as PV. I sympathise with all the parents who are going thru this phase. We feel so helpless to do anything…

                Hi Oldman 123

                1. Are you volunteering at where you reside (ie same GRC) ? if yes, very likely EM, best check with your Chairman.

                2. AM not qualify for P2B, only EM does.

                3. My eldest son born in yr 06 as well so must get letter/appointment by June 30 2011 for July 2012 registration.

                4. Chances via P2B is higher, you can check the balloting history of that particular school but during phase 2B, distance do play a part when there is over subscription (ie more application than vacancy).

Does the 1 year EM status applies for all primary schools?

I’ve heard rumours that some popular primary schools only accept your child for phase 2b if you have 2 years EM status, and I heard one school only accept 3 years of EM status.

                    Can anyone verify that?

Not true. The 12-mth criteria is stipulated by PA and the GRL certificate is awarded by PA if criteria met. Schools have no visibility on the duration of EM status. All GRL with the certificate are equal in P2B. If a school is very very popular, what it can do at most is to limit the applicants by distance, e.g. accepting only those who stay within 1km, since if those also needs balloting, then no point accepting those stay more than 1km away.
