Hi cody, sorry to disappoint but 4 times a week PE is not the norm for older kids
For Pri 1 and 2, there are 3 PE lessons (each one period) and one period of gym.
For Pri 3 onwards, gym is no longer a compulsory programme that is weaved into the time table. Can't remember the number of PE lessons for P3 and 4. However, at P5 and 6, there is only 2 periods of PE in a week and these 2 periods are together (double periods).cody:

Thanks! That was very informative!
I'm surprised that gym shorts are accepted thru out the day since it's not mentioned anywhere in the school rules.
Is 4 times a week PE the norm for the older kids too?
I thot it was for the P1s only but if it holds true for P1-6, that'd be good.
More exercise ie time away from books is great! -
Oh, dear. Sounds chaotic. Think will need to allocate more time for drop-off and pick-up. Cannot expect to do a \"drop-and-go\" or \"pick-and-go\". Haha...
cody:
Pick up and drop off is a nightmare.
At the current compound, cars line up single file at the drive way in front of the general office. The nightmare is when some parents LEAVE their car, lock up and walk off to fetch their kids.
I witnessed this several times, and almost always there will be at least 1 kid who is dismissed slightly later. Hence causing a congestion since the car is stationery and there is no way to get around that car!
The road outside the school is equally congested. Cars line up on both sides, making it a narrow lane passable to 2-way traffic but if a big vehicle like a cement mixer comes along, then everyone will have to give way to let it pass else it will bottle neck again.
The carpark at Henry park apartments across the road is not spared too.
I heard they recently got the residents to sell the place en bloc.
Can't imagine how the congestion when the construction starts!
The carpark compound at RJC is huge, provided that the school doesn't make use of the space for other purposes eg bus bay for school buses.LeeTung:
Hi, Parents.
Our eldest child will be in P1 in 2012. Our choice for now is HPPS.
We know that HPPS will operate from former RJC compound for 1.5 years starting 2012. Nevertheless, would like to check how you drop and pick up your kids everyday given that the road along the entrance is 2-way single-lane.
Also, is it necessary to get the kids handphone? Think they can't use it during lessons, correct?
Thanks in advance. -
Thanks. Think we'll monitor after she starts term and seeifthere is a need.
cody:
My understanding is that Use of handphones is not allowed other than at the pick up zone after dismissal.
I didn't get my kid a handphone tho I see some P1s carrying them.
The security guard gets the kids who have been dismissed but parents not arrived yet to sit down at the sheltered porch to wait.LeeTung:

Mybaby is right. My boy wears his gym shorts for both gym and PE. Hence, he is practically in his gym shorts the whole week except Thursday (when his class has no PE nor gym). If I knew that the P1s are going to have 3 days of PE and a day of gym, I would have bought more gym shorts for him when we purchased the school uniform. I ended up going to the bookshop again on the second week to purchase two more pairs of gym shorts after knowing that he has physical exercise 4 days a week.
One thing which I do not like about the gym shorts is the lack of pockets. I would like my boy to carry a handkerchief with him everyday so that he can wipe his hands after washing or clean his month after eating. Without the pocket, my poor boy will not have his handkerchief or tissues with him if his school bag is not near him.
I like the part whereby the school schedules physical exercise 4 times a week. More exercise = healthier and happier kids.
I will be going to the zoo with the kids on Monday as a parent volunteer too. Looking forward to it. -

my kid's zoo outing is on Tues, and i'm a volunteer too.
tho i won't have you for company

Gym shorts - i am going to switch my boy to the gym shorts too but there're no decent pockets to put $$ in!
sigh .... so today i put his coin pouch in his bag. hopefully it doesn't get stolen!
me too, i also ask my boy to bring a handkerchief to school - he was trained to use it since Kindergarten, so i continued the practise.
ONE QUESTION: do boys have to tuck in their t-shirt into the gym shorts, or do they leave the t-shirt out? -

ONE QUESTION: do boys have to tuck in their t-shirt into the gym shorts, or do they leave the t-shirt out?[/quote]Hi Cody, answer to gym shorts - tucked in. Also tucked in for normal school shorts.
Enjoy your learning journey with you child and classmates. Good opportunity to observe your child interacting with his teachers and fellow classmates. -
