P5 - What time do your kids finish after school ?

My friend's daughter last year (P2) also has supplementary class twice a week. I think this trend will continuous to get worse.

For those parents that are not in favour of the supplementary classes or extended curriuclum classes, do you all raised it up to the Principal?


Mine daughter in P6 has Mon and Wed extended curriculum classes till 3.30pm and when I feedback to the Principal that I’m not in favour of it, the Principal told me that many parents like it. When ask whether the teacher can finished the subjects syllabus without the extended hours, the Principal relutantly replied only the bare minimum…

It seems to be the norm now for schools to conduct such supplementary or extended hours in school for show to MOE???

Seems like other parents are also complaining about the extended school hours the students have to spend in school on the Straits Times forum these few days.


Hope to see the MOE reply to this issue. Last year, I’ve written to the MOE, but MOE just redirect my letter to the school Principal.

Asked son what teacher does during supp classes...he told me will continue teaching like as in during school hours...but he told me teachers promise not to give extra homework.

in the later stage, teachers usually just go thru the corrections of practice papers during supplementary,
for those who have gotten them right, it's quite a waste of time.

In today's ST, a parent said her son at P3 studying at St Andrew has to stay back for extra lessons. Actually what is the actual reason to conduct all these extra supp classes? I can understand P6 may need the extra supp classes but surely lower levels don't need this.

I am also keen to see if there is any comments from MOE. For lower primay levels, I hv no objections if the school lengthens it curriculum time to run enrichment programmes but having too supplementary classes to teach the normal curriculum is unnecessary.

Is it really true that the teachers have insufficient time to teach during curriculum for kids in P1-3 ? It's not like as in P6 where that extra time is required after school to do that crucial 'pumping' and intensive revision.

I'm ok with P5/6 having compulsory supplementary lessons since it's the push before the BIG one - PSLE. But I'm against supplementary for P1-3. It's just ridiculous. Schools mentioned having supp classes at lower-mid level are St Gabriel, St Andrews for eg.

So much for Teach Less Learn More! Cannot see which part is 'teach less' if the kids are made to stay in school for long hours. :?

With 2 days of extra suppl lessons this yr, there is lesser time. CA1 is just end of the month. How to revise ??? Noon, son has to take nap or he is too tired to do his school hw…and just getting school hw done is not going to help him do well for CA/SA. Unless I can live with Band 3 results, which I cannot.


I’m no Tiger mama though. If he can score Band 2, I’m happy…Band 1 would be a bonus.
