      mama Ping:
For me, I more prefer YangZheng as I checked the Top Primary School in Kiasu Parents Forums, YangZheng was voted 3 stars For the Top PSLE results, 反之 CHIJ OLN was only voted 1 star, but my husband insisted our daughter studied in Girls School, and 1 more thing, My husband told me he had ever seen few times one student is wearing St Gabriel's uniform stolel things in Supermarket or minimart in Serangoon.

      Hi mama Ping,
We have not decided where to register my girl. I am staying near serangoon area and passed by Yangzheng one day. Saw alot of banners on achievements. Today, I read yr post. Just wondering if you or any kiasu parent did any reseach on this school? I am deciding if I want to register in Pei Chun under phase 2C (1-2km) under my in law's add or schools in Serangoon. Hope you could share with me if you have any inputs on Yangzheng or any \"ok\" schools in Serangoon that we get in easily under phase 2C <1km.

        Dear Mermaid,

I just go to internet to read through the school which I like to register my girl in, but I heard of my neighbour said Yangzheng these few years really improved a lot and now become quite famous school of its academic & other achievements. Actually I prefer to send my gal there but since my husband insist & keep on quarrel with me over must sending our gal to girls school, I got no choice to send her to CHIJ OLN. Pei Chun I never do reaserch on her, as not near my house even vote the chance will be very low, actually If I am in your situation, why dun try Paya Lebar Methodist Girls school, it is very famous too.

Hi, mermaid, sorry, wat is PV? my gal oso born in 2003, I will register her in CHIJ OLN on 13 Jul 2009 (under phase 2A2), although I am not prefer CHIJ OLN as CHIJ schools more emphasis in moral, the academic teaching is a little bit slow compare with others school and I realize that CHIJ schools - their language subject is quite strong & good but Maths & Science is a bit weak if compare to Yangzheng or Paya Lebar Methodist Pri School.

              Hi Mama Ping,

Thanks PV = Parent volunteer, I learnt this from this forum. 🙂

Thanks for your valuable info. I guess I will just go for Yangzheng, it will be a better bet cos I believe I live within 1km. (Checking with the school on my address now).

We had lots of stress recently as my daughter wanted to be in the same school as her cousins who are in Pei Chun, so as my in-laws. But, we missed the PV application in 2008 Mar. I was informed that the closing date was May 2008 but when I called in Mar08, there were no more availability left. I thot I should have been more Kiasu…however, later on, we hesitated to put her in Pei Chun after seeing the results of her 2 cousins in P3 and P5. Their results really pull down their confidence level by alot. I would prefer to enrol my girl in an OK school, so that she can excel with her upmost potential and at the same time build up confidence level, I guess that is what is the most important in life.

                Mermaid,

ya, my neighbour said she sent her son to 海星小学 oso same like your cousin, her son’s result oso pull down his confidence, she told me really too regret not send him to YangZheng instead of send her son to Mt Stella (海星小学). For me, although I am not prefer CHIJ OLN but since can produce a good moral student (may be the academic result not so excellent) I felt vey satisfactory already at least in future she got a good moral, humble, helpful, confident, it is more valuable than good results in her future life.

                  Dear Mermaid & MamaPing

As posted earlier, Yangzheng is not bad, my friend’s child is educationally ‘sub-normal’ but the principal and the teachers were very patient and accommodating, she has nothing but good to say about the school.

Academic-smart does not equal street-smart; also does not equal career luck! Before I left the corporate world, I came across many of my ex-colleagues who graduated from our local top primary & secondary schools, some even possess masters and honours degrees from reputable universities but amazingly, yours truly who came from a non top-brand school earned more than them and travelled first & business class while they were toiling hard - I am not bragging here but just lamenting that luck and the blessings from above do play a huge significance in our lives and our children’s lives and, we must always be thankful for that, be appreciative of what we have.

                  Good luck to your children!

                    Thanks Mama Ping and Cartier,

Really appreciate your advice. Yes, I agree with you fully, Cartier. I don’t come from a branded primary or sec school too but I find myself at a higher end in terms of career compared to most of my University mates.

By the way, I have set Yangzheng as my first choice. However, I would also like to identify my second choice in case (touch wood).

Does anyone have any feedback on Kheng Cheng Pri school (behind my in law’s house) or Zhong Hua Pri school? I went to website of Kheng Cheng, surprisingly, their top scorer was 272.

Dont know much of Zhong Hua, it’s a school with high enrolment of students from Myanmar and China, so I heard from my neighbours. The current principal is from Tanjong Katong Primary School, if I am not wrong.

Kheng Cheng used to be one of the better schools in Toa Payoh eons ago and has a long history, gotta ask those who stay in TP to advise.

                      Cheers.

Cartier, thanks of your valuable advise, I agreed too, that is why I prefer YangZheng.

Mermaid, My ex-collegues stays in Serangoon Ave 2 told me that Zhong Hua is a very very good school. She asked me should put Zhong Hua as first choice for my girl, but for my opinion is , firstly Zhong Hua is very far from my house, and secondly, I afraid my girl cannot catch & follw up in a OK school. I heard my neighbour said, YangZheng is very easy to enrol in as not much parents will take it as first choice, may be to the parents’ mind Zhang Zheng is 邻里学校. Last Year’s enrolment still got 100+ vacancy after phase 2A2.
