We already have much difficulties in getting families to procreate. So any suggestion to adjust phase 1A is incoherent with our national agenda.

Of coure there are people out there who are favourable to have more quality import to make up for shortages. However, this creates other sets of problems.

      Phase 1A must be maintained.

Not all find it bs (the getting to know better part).

I hear about the school, I want to get my kid in and therefore do PV. That bit is correct. But then, after doing PV, I am in a better position to assess my initial understanding.

I would love it if my neighbours can feed me information. But then, not everyone has that kind of wonderful neighbours.
🙂 So I would say its more to 're-affirm' your decision and that the environment is right for your child?

even for former students (they are already familiar with the school culture), i believe that most will choose to send their child back to their school only if the school advocates the right values or subsequent batches of students perform decently in national exams.

Preciousmoments: A national policy that impacts all children cum parents has to be robust and fair. It cannot favour one party over the other.

That’s the Equaity and Justice we pledge since pri school days.

hqQuek: Think we can’t equate PV with job interview. For job interview, once they confirm u and u do your job, they pay u. For PV, they confirm u, you do the job, no pay and they yet do not confirm tt u hv a place in the school.

Pen88n: By masses, I am referring to the general public as a whole, those without P2A link. And I use professionals to loosely refer to all white collar workers. So, the teacher who got in as PV is a professional. As to the air con technician, I think he may be just the minority. Bulk of the PV are still the white collar workers.
And elite,I am referring to the ‘in-group with get in thru P2A’.
I apologise if I have caused some confusion with the term elite and professional

LOLmum : Precisely, it is illogical that a child living so far away fr school get admitted under P2A while another living just next door do not under 2B/C

And Yes, the P1 registration needs revamp

I was from a girl's school and would have been eligible for Phase 2A in that 'elite' school should I have a girl (heavens play trick on me). Sorry but I don't think this should be scrapped becos it's really an amazing thing for child to go to same school as the parent. But if want to tweak, maybe make the parents do a bit of work (under alumnus) etc to be eligible under 2A.

I can feel the arrows shooting liao... :siam:
I think it is natural for mothers to want their kids to go back to their school(I think fathers are less sentimental, except for those from the ACS family... :siam: ). Unfortunately, I don't belong to the category where my kids could gain entry to any primary schools in Singapore under phase 2A.

My wish now is that my dd could one day attend the same secondary school as I did... LOL.

Policy makers will not tweak phase 1A as national interest is at stake.

I was from an all girls' school in Toa Payoh and YES, my daughter is studying in that school now under Phase 2A2. (Can feel arrows shooting) 🦆

Like what Busymom mentioned, mothers have sentimental feelings towards their former schools...but this time it's hubby who is MORE keen to register daughter there.

As for PV, it's not so much of re-affirming my decision. As a PV, we are 'free' to walk in school compound to see and talk to teachers but we don't sit in the class and attend lessons. I get to know what food is sold in the canteen and know the prices.

Yup, there is this lack of assurance that parents find unsettling. Thus I always give my thanks for ksp for providing past data on what the situation was like in the past and therefore a fair assessment on what I can expect when it's my turn.

Parents MUST go into this with both eyes open - there is NO guarantee. Do grassroots also don't have, join clan also don't have. I'm glad that at least PV and clan do highlight this when one signs up.

Is PV the only option for parents to get a better feel of the school? Why not open house like what they did for polys, unis?

Not all schools have - esp after the epidemic scares (think it was Sars, or maybe H1N1).

yeap, it is so unfair that a kid whose family cant afford to buy/rent a place next to a top school be deprived of a chance to study there.
