Congrats! That's a pretty good price. The initial setup can be quite tricky if you have a home network that is not using the default 192.168.x.x private IP subnet. Set it up using wire first, before attempting wireless setup. Also, do the software setup beside the computer first before installing it up high on the wall.i managed to buy the dcs-5220 at the special price!

Hi, I am new in KIAUSUPARENTS. I am trying to seek opinion of mummy/daddy who has installed CCTV at home to monitor maid and children. Can somebody share your experience, please?

hi there
i am also interested in CCTV at home -did u manage to do it? -
Hi Spikey,
I have not got the CCTV yet. I am looking for 1 which i can monitor my maid and baby at home, while I am at work by logging into the internet. I have seen advertisement which claim to be be less than $1000 and including cabling. But I am not sure if i need to switch on my PC at home at all time, if i want to see them thru internet. I also don’t know if I need to pay for monthly subscription. -

i sent out enquiries to about 10 CCTV camera installers last night. Shortlisted one of them who has experience in installing for a landed property - he's coming over this weekend to give a quote. Expected to cost more than $1000 because of the split levels and extra cabling.Hi Spikey,

I have CCTV at my house
Used for security reasons rather than maid
I got contact who can offer wholesale rates for CCTV. Can come to my house to take a look (we have both CCTV & IP cams). Confirm cheaper than outside cos no 'salesman' or 'middleman' earning from it. The cameras & hard disk come direct from the importer.
If you are keen can email me [email protected]. -
For home use, forget about laying cables. Use wireless ip camera. This way you can place the camera anywhere you like - as long as there’s a power point near by. Basically, there are 2 types of cameras. Fixed and pan/tilt camera. Pan/tilt camera will give more flexibility as you can view 180 degree but cost a bit more.
Chances are you already have internet access at home. So just connect to the router wirelessly. Btw, you also don’t need to switch on PC whole day. Just switch on the router and camera will do.
