I would say CHS is the best choice. It is near to almost everyone. It focus of bilingualism. And its a good school.

I myself is a CHS student. (im not biased…)

Thank you all... Sorry, still abit :? , apart from the cohort factor, does that mean it's probably easier for our DS to get into SJI in 2012 (since IP only starts in 2013)? Or should he try DSA (heard it's time consuming process)? How does IP works, would DS still stand a chance to go onto the IP track in Sec 2 when they starts their IP in 2013? Yeah... heard some positive feedback from his teachers. They think the school culture (whatever that is) suits our DS perfectly. 😄

So sorry, DS is the first in the family to experience this new programme, all his cousins are either older or younger, no one is able to advice or share experience with. Currently, DS is not serious with his PSLE preparation 😞 really hope that he can 'wake up' soon... Since he doesn't attend any tuition class, probably have to plan for 1 month no-pay-leave in Sept to help him liao. Am not asking for much, just good enough to get into SJI. 🙏
I did not follow thru the entire thread to know the full picture. However, on your note about motivating your kid for PSLE...something to share.

I brought my 1st DS for open houses of schools that he show slight interest in but unclear what....that was done when he was at Pri 5.

Moving in the crowd, seeing the CCA, how the boys behaved, listening to the type of questions the P6sers at that point were asking did open up his mind a fair bit and definitely helped clear his doubts and prompted him to find out more about PSLE and Sec 1.

But again, all kids are 'made' differently...hope this will come in helpful.

Hi ksasalways, thanks for your advice. Tot of that too last year when he was still in P5, but his FT thinks it's too early to go for any open house. We're now waiting for the release of dates to open house so that he can get a 'feel' of the schools he's interested in. Even better if it can motivates him to work harder for his PSLE... 😄

Sharing my personal experience here. Brought son last year (P5) to NUS High open house but instead of motivating him, he was just too excited to run around the campus as it's big compound to wonder around, in the end only me and hubby attended the talk by the Principal. This year son in P6, without me asking whether he still keen in this year's NUS High open house, he started asking me qns about the school instead and showing keen interest in getting in too. Guess the difference from P5 to P6 speaks that the kid himself seems to know the world of difference as PSLE is a big thing and at some point, planning / thinking through process of which school to go to is important. 🙂

I think it’s important to visit Open Houses to let the kid see for himself what his future school will be like. Whether he’ll like the ambience, the culture, the environment… For parents, it’s an opportunity to find out more about the school, talk to the students, the teachers…

Remember that at Open Houses, the school is putting its best out for show. They’re doing this to impress prospective students and their parents. If you’re not impressed by what you see at the Open House, by the student leaders, by the staff, then you’re unlikely to be impressed by the school when school starts.

Also note that some of the schools tend to hold their Open Houses on the same day, so be prepared to rush from one school to another.

Pri 5 is NOT too early to visit open houses of sec schools !

when I brought my DS at P5 to those open houses, lo and behold, so many of his friends are there too…and when we went again at P6, the principal of the sec school said…oh you again !!

Can anyone advise me if the school’s open house will be held usually on weekdays or weekends? Thanks.
