      spunky:
      teh_oh:

      1 - 3/8 - 1/8 = ____

      For the above type of math questions, will marks be deducted if the child did not reduce the answer to '1/2' after getting '4/8'?
      Thanks.

      no marks should be deducted unless the question specifies that answer must be in the simplest form.

      However, as a good habit, teach the child to reduce at all times especially simple fractions like 4/8

      Thanks spunky. πŸ™‚

        Adrian & Zen shared some marbles equally. After Zen received 58 marbles from Adrian, how many more marbles than Adrian did Zen have?

        The answer is 116 marbles??

        I can’t figure out why?

          let me try huh..but I don't know how to show it here by model so below is my explanation:

          Adrain has A + 58 marbles
          Zen has A + 58 marbles also
          So when Zen received 58 marbles from Adrain then
          Zen would have A + 58 +58 = A + 116 marbles
          and Adrain would have A marbles
          so Zen has 116 marbles more then Adrain!

          Hope my explanation is correct πŸ˜‰

            Initially,
            A[====]
            Z[====]

            After giving
            A[==]-58
            Z[====]==]+58

            hence 58+58=116.

            sorry, i'm not so good at using this platform to illustrate models.

              Need help to solve below question:

              John and Jane shared some marbles in the ratio 7:3. When John gave Jane 12 marbles, he found that they each had the same of marbles. How many marbles did Jane have at first?

              Thanks!

                In the begninning,

                John:Jane:Total = 7:3:10

                Since the total didn't change, The total at end must be

                John:Jane:Total = 5:5:10

                For a difference of 2 (3->5), Jane would have 3 at first.
                For a difference of 12, Jane would have at first = 12/2 x 3 = 18
