Is it compulsory for all NUSH students to participate in all the Math Olympiads? For the recent American Math Competition, did the Year 1 & 2 students take part in AMC 8, 10 or 12? Or all?

Dont think if it is compulsory, but it is a default elective.

They can take more than one of AMC 8,10,12 if interested. But there might be clash of dates - like this year 10 a and 12 a wereon at the same time.

PS- will confirm after checking with dd later tonite

Can anyone advise what is the best age to bring the kid to view the school's open house? Is P4 too early??
A tad early but if the kid is keen go for it.

Usually in NUSH conducts Maths carnival , where primary 4 students get to go. This helps the students come to know abt the school, see it from their prespective and often this makes it a place they aspire to be ...
And imho, is a better way to introduce the school than the open house.

          jtoh,

confirmed with DD, few kids dont take Maths Olympiad.

For AMC they have an option of 10 and/or 12, (no 8 )

NUSH encouraged all Y1-4 to take AMC 10 and Y5 - 6 to take AMC 12. Tests were conducted a few days ago.

Maths Olympiad is considered an elective. If u sign up for the training, then it is compulsory to participate in the SMO Junior as students will be graded based on assignments given out during training and as well as the SMO results. I think NUSH is probably the only school that rewards their students for participating SMO.

Thank you, Sun_2010. Any idea when will the Maths Carnival be held? Is it open to the public or only by invitation to selected schools?

                    Thank you once again!

[/quote]I believe it is open to all primary schools in Singapore but it is up to the schools to send in their representatives. Each school is allowed to send in more than 1 team. The carnival is like a mini amazing race in which teams have to clear several check points. At each check point, the team is given a mathematical problem to solve and they need to solve it before proceeding to the next check point where they will be given another problem to solve and so on. I think NUSH designed this format to allow kids to explore the campus. Subtle marketing šŸ˜„
