dear NK parents with kids born in 2007,

        fyi.

most primary schools are now open to accept PV - for kids born in 07. Some primary schools’ dateline for pv is June mthend, while other schools’ dateline is July mthend 2011.

do act fast, if you intend to do pv / rc.

For those whose kids are in nursery (N2) now, how are your kids coping with the 4 hours? Especially if attending pm session. My DD used to attend playgroup last year, but pulled her out for 2011. However, if slot is available, i am considering letting her attend from mid-2011, but am worried the hours are too long. She still needs pm naps every now and then.

My DS2 is in nursery pm session. Like your DD, he still needs his occasional afternoon naps. To avoid him getting too tired, we get him to lie down at about 10am to rest or nap, so he isn't so tired in school. He does get tired after school, especially if he didn't manage to nap in the morning. So we get him to bed early - lights out at 730pm, and he's usually asleep by 8 or 830pm. But based on my experience with my DS1 who attended a 4 hour pre-school programme elsewhere, their stamina will improve over the year.

so far, my girl in Nursery PM this yr had settled down fine!

after some training, she is ok with sleep management.

daily routine - wakes up 8.45 am, stand in front of a mirror brush teeth, bathe … dilly dally … eat breakfast finish by 10 am (she is a slow eater).

school bus Auntie Ong come and fetch her 10.45 am, reach Newton kindergarten 11.25 am.

then, lunch for half an hour daily - from 11.45 am to 12.15 pm in school.
she lunch inside class with her teacher and classmates.
total 11 kids in her PM class.
Mon to Wed - lunch with English teacher.
Thur, Fri - lunch with with Chinese form teacher.

proper lesson starts from - 12.15 pm until 3.30 pm.
3.30 pm to 3.45 pm - everyone gather at Assembly hall, listen to bible stories, school announcements. Mon to Wed - bible stories are taught in Mandarin. Thur, Fri, they are taught in English.

3.50 pm - school dismiss, all kids hop back cheerfully onto school bus.
inside school bus, kids chit chat happily / converse in Chinese amongst themselves, talking in Mandarin like little happy chirpy bird!

from day 1 since they join Newton, both Principal and teachers had told them that they had joined a Chinese speaking kindergarten. Hence, they are encouraged to converse in Mandarin more than english. I observed this, when i took school bus first 3 days during 4 to 6 January.

                        4.30 pm reach home.

rest a short while, bathe, drink milk - 5 pm sleep, short nap until
6.15 pm. Wake up, eat dinner. 10.30 pm sleep.
