between MGS and SCGS - which sch better ?
I personally think SCGS is better. My impression is, their academic results are better. -
greenbean2011:
20 places will be allocated for RC members but dont think it will be easy coz it is hard to get into this con. RC because a lot of name schools are here.any parents here who do rc work, and manage to enter NYPS ?
bec i heard rc stands higher chance compared to pv, pv doesnt guarantee in the event supply > demand, hence ballot which depends on luck.
any idea for each year Pri 1 entry, roughly how many places are allocated for rc ?
Err rephase to be more specific, they try to limit those RC members to a certain number so that all of them stands a good chance in balloting if any.
And also like in my dd year, we got info that there were 20 RC \"indicative\" to be balloting in NYPS so only 30 PV were accepted. The school in a way montitor such number so those in the PV stands a good chance. -
MissAshley:
It is difficult to gauge in any case. Not all members serving grassroots in the constituency are aiming for NYPS. There are many other good schools within this constituency. Also, there may be other GRLs serving in other constituencies but live in Holland-Bukit Timah GRC. They are eligible to choose NYPS too.Err rephase to be more specific, they try to limit those RC members to a certain number so that all of them stands a good chance in balloting if any.

agree. its better for nyps to manage and estimate the number of RC applicants and only accept PVs that realistically stand a chance of having their child admitted into the school. while its true that PVs are not guaranteed that their child will gain admission, i guess its only in the interest of the parent that his/her chances are made known at the soonest opportunity. thumbs-up to the school for that!

Guess they failed miserably last year, with 22 going for 7 places in the beyond 2km category. -
Hi to all
Want check with all parents if your kid has also went thru the same tests when they were in P1… because I find the way they are doing it is abit strange in the sense that they are like trying to identify something that we as a parents do not know…
my ds is currently in P1 and recently came back and told us that the school has been doing some tests to check their knowledge… apparently ds has already sit for 3 tests and according to ds
. the first test was a 1 to 1 test, qns asked seems quite general on shapes, pictures, numbers, some puzzle like qns… this one seems like everyone in the class gets a chance to do…
. the second one, DS says their names was called out after one of the assembly and there was only abt 5 to 7 kids from each class being called and they were then asked to report to a teacher and then were led to a room to do a maths test … according to DS this 2nd test qns comprises of multiplication, subtraction, addition of 3digits numbers and there was 1 division qn… kid says he got to skip the division qn cos he don’t know…
. the most recent test, DS was tested by the same teacher on a PE test which according to DS, he was asked to do follow some very simple instructions like picking a ball and throwing it at a target, walking in a straight line, use a pencil and trace on a path, use a piece of string and string up some pieces of shapes in some way…
Wifey first thought was that this is some kind of IQ tests… but I really thought it seemed abit early for this… especially when the school term first started…and division has yet to be thought… and looking at the way the tests was done … this seems to be more than a knowledge check on the P1 kids…
Do you have any idea roughly what are these tests for? have your kids experienced the same tests?
TIA! -
This should be something new they are doing this year.
DD didn’t tell us doing any of such tests in P1 last year. -
