what is the age range for AMC 8 ? My DS took it when he was in Pri 5

Pr 5 to sec 2, 11 to 14 year old.

Not sure of the age , but DD took it in P3 year end ( at the point of the exam she was 9+).

Maybe there is no lower age limit...
I don't think there's a lower age limit. It's just recommended for Grade 6,7,8, which is equivalent to our under-13/14s or thereabouts. Our level of Math ability is also a lot higher than the American grades, so it's not surprising that we have primary kids taking the test. But P3 is really young. Was your kid an exception or were there other P3s taking the test too?
Thank you, Sun_2010. Any idea when will the Maths Carnival be held? Is it open to the public or only by invitation to selected schools?
I believe it is open to all primary schools in Singapore but it is up to the schools to send in their representatives. Each school is allowed to send in more than 1 team. The carnival is like a mini amazing race in which teams have to clear several check points. At each check point, the team is given a mathematical problem to solve and they need to solve it before proceeding to the next check point where they will be given another problem to solve and so on. I think NUSH designed this format to allow kids to explore the campus. Subtle marketing :D
Oh, ok. Thanks DVL! But if that's the case, it means whether a student gets to participate in the carnival or not will depend on the school...hmmm...

I only remember she took it as there was a cert that i filed while putting together her DSA portfolio. I think it was p3, but not 100% sure . Will check with DD and get back later ...
it is more than 'subtle'......more like open promotion.....my DS class went and came back all said want to got NUSH .....
I won't call it open promotion because no one from NUSH was doing any sales pitch to the kids. I believe the objective of NUSH is to open their facilities and allow the kids to explore and interact with their students and hopefully some would be inspired and work hard to get into the school. Appeared that the school is doing a good job in inspiring these P4 kids and we should be thankful. As parents, we all know that it is easy to motivate a kid who has a lofty goal to aim.

Really? That's bad. Kids taking SMOPS are the ones who would be keen on NUSH.
