Distance running is my thing. 3-4x runs per week, 40-60km per week, peaking 80+km nearer running events. Needs a lot of dscipline and time management.....

Being lean and fit has its fringe benefits....;)
Hahaa.. Your regime is almost similar to mine bro.. Only thing is that I would normally do it in the evenings on weekdays instead of mornings. However as for weekends.. Morning runs are the best.. 😄

I also agree that distance running requires a lot of discipline & time management.. and being lean and fit does come with LOTS of fringe benefits.

            buds hubs:
This was how I got started, initally I thought that I can only do it when the kids are asleep or are not around but sadly being parents, we do not have such luxury..

Whaddya' mean by no luxury? Ya have all the time in the world. I look
            after the kiddies whut...

No way you cud have done your many runs without my support mah.
Never thank your wife, cheh...
            buds hubs:
Hence we have to make & find time to do it and could probably get our children to be involved as well ie; walks around the parks/ cycling etc.. It may even develop an interest in sporting activities for our children. 😄

Yes, on an off days when i feel like running off steam at the park, me and
hubs will take turns to run.. So, we take turns to watch the kiddies at the
playground or play/blade around the park. I usually run first lor. Cos i
run veri fast finish one.. So, by the time he clock his clicks i can reali
            get that breather.

[Editor's note: Topic selected for http://www.kiasuparents.com/kiasu/content/exercise-yourself-and-your-children.]

It seems to me that the most common reason given by most parents for
not exercising is that they are too busy with their children and cannot
afford the time. This makes regular exercise a challenge for everyone
especially parents. I understand that it can be difficult to find the time
to juggle work, parenting, housework and regular exercise especially
during the school holidays when the children spends more time at home.

However, having regular exercise is important and should be a priority.
Parents need to exercise not only for themselves but also for the
children’s benefit. It is important for us to set a good example to our
children and let them know that we engage in exercise to stay healthy.
Tell them that we are growing old & need the exercise so that we have
the energy & stamina to keep up with them. We should not let them have
              a negative image of exercise.

Many of us would wonder how we can make exercise fit in our busy
schedule. Well, I came across an article which offers some tips to
parents on how a little planning can help you find ways to incorporate
workouts (often with your children) into the time you spend with them
irregardless of what age your children are.

Here are some of the tips based on the age of your children:

              Age: Infant through pre-school
              • Fit in exercise time while they are napping. Try a home exercise
video, walking or jogging (if you have a treadmill), jumping rope.
              • Occupy them for even 15 minutes with a video or toy while you do
some toning exercises like squats and tricep dips.
              • Grab your stroller and go for a brisk walk*. Or, buy a jogging stroller
for more flexibility. With a jogging stroller you can walk faster, jog or
even run at a fast pace. And, for veteran rollerbladers, you can even
use the stroller for some skating time.
              • For younger children, you can use a back carrier to transport them
while walking. This can burn even more calories as the extra weight
              makes it more challenging.
              • Turn on some music and dance together. Toddlers love dancing,
especially when their parents joins in.
              • Push your kid on a swing. And, after every push complete one squat.
              • Use an infant carrier or bike trailer to enjoy a bike ride together.

              Age: Primary School
              • Try rollerblading or skating together.
              • Spend an afternoon at a park with a playground, but don’t spend the
whole time relaxing on the sidelines – join in on the fun. Spend some
time swinging to help workout your legs. Try making it across the monkey
bars – even just once (it’s a great upper body workout and you’ll be
amazed that your kid does it with such little ease). Try some pull-ups
using a bar on the playset. Do some tricep dips on a nearby park bench.
              • Play catch with a ball or get a small group together for a kickball or
              softball game.
              • Make Saturdays family bike outing day.
              • Involve your kids while you strength train. Let them count your reps
out loud for you and/or clock your rest time in-between sets.
              • For pool outings, don’t just spend time soaking up the sun. Walk back
and forth in shallow water while your kids have fun splashing about.
              • On rainy days that force you inside, walk or run up and down the stairs.
You might even make it a contest to see who can finish 5 complete rounds first.

              Age: Teenagers
              • Register for a fun run (or walk) event and spend time together
              training for the event.
              • Sign up for a family gym membership and workout together weekly.
              • Play tennis or basketball or other sports together.
              • Consider joining a community volleybal, basketball or soccer team
that includes enthusiasts of all ages.
              • Don’t just sit and cheer your kids at their sporting events. Every few
minutes do some walking or jumping jacks or squats.
              • Implement a daily family walk each day before or after dinner.
              • Do house chores like cleaning & mopping the floor together.
              • Washing or polishing the family car can be great exercise too .

Hopefully with the above tips & recommendations, you no longer have
an excuse not to workout. Plus, exercising with your children
also provides the extra BONUS of spending quality time together.

I used to run everyday (half an hour), carry weights (3 times a week), crunches (everyday), steps aerobics (twice a week), swimming, twice a week. That was more than 4 years ago when I was working in a company that believe in work life balance. The gym (company’s own) is at the same building where I am working. There’s shower place, so it’s simply convenient.

I even start to do brisk walking right after two weeks after given birth.

Now, with my current job I totally stop. There’s simply no work life balance or may be I’m too lazy. Been trying to start as my size been increasing but simply wasting away. Ironically, the current company gives $400 for us to sign on to any gym membership fee.

The only exercise I do is to struts in high heels up to my place at 10th floor when the lift breaks down. This only happens occassionally. Since I drive to work, chances of walking to MRT or running after a bus is also nil.
My hubby been very worried cause at the rate of how I squeeze my already tight agenda, good food & no exercise, I might just one day hit by "god forbid" heart attack at an early age.

Hee...same, same...basic housework exercise. I know the importance of exercise but no time and also too lazy. Thought of taking Pilates before and even bought the video and mat to self-learn (unable to schedule time to go for classes)...but till now, didn't get round to it...

DD1 loves to play badminton, so once in a while was forced to play with her (usually hubby will play with her). Play ball with DD2 and of course, all the housework, weight-lifting DD2 and running after her! 😉

                      HI,

I am 42 years old, working fulltimes with 2 children. I jog/run 4 times a week - 5km each on weekday and 8-10km on Sat / Sun. I am super healthy - zero MC for the past 18 mths!

This has been my schedule for the past 1-2 years:
Tues/Thur : Jog/Run starting at 6.45am (after kids left for school) for 5km
Sat/Sun : Jog/Run at 6.45am for an hour (covering 8-10km). Home before 8am (kids just wake up)

If it is raining in the morning; i will job in the evening or the next day.

I want to excerise to keep fit and also to fall sick less so that I can spend all my times fully with my family and concentrate on my work.

I have noticed that I am more alert at work after excerise and my hubby and kids noticed my determination - there is no such things as too tired or no time for excerise (maybe not the right time of the day sometimes).

                        HI,

I want to add that I started jogging 2 years ago - I started jogging slowly and walking at times covering 1-2 km only. After that I started to extend the distance… and jog faster. It takes time to reach the timing and distance and there is no need to rush.

I want all mummies to know that it is possible to schedule time for excerise. AND THE RESULT : Slimmer/Toner, Happpier and Prettier Mummies!
