hi 2galsmum, at least you still have good choices, envy you. For me, my nearest is sembawang pri and my whole family wanted to choose this, reason is due to distance, despite I wanted Endeavour Pri.

hi 2galsmum,
Did you get the letter from clan for phase 2B?

Hi,
I am staying >2km from Chong Fu Primary School. If I am a member of Singapore Hokkien Huay Kuan and eligible for phase 2B which is subjected to balloting.
For e.g. if the eligible vacancies are 60 and no. of applicants are 70. Wonder if I will get a chance for balloting as I understand priority for balloting will be based on distance.
Anyone can advise me. Many thanks.
Regards,

Hi Shmum,
Firstly, you’ll have to look at the balloting history of ChongFu. If for the past few years, balloting is for 1-2km, then chances are those staying outside 2km will not have a chance to ballot at all. Also, member of Hokkien Huay Kuan does not gives you automatic eligibility to apply in Phase 2B. They are those who stay within 1km of the school and more than 2 year’s membership, yet do not get the Clan’s recommendation to apply in phase 2B.
You may want to try to apply as the school’s PV instead, at least, if you have clocked in the requisite number of PV hours, you’re guaranteed the chance to apply under phase 2B.
Why don’t you call up Chongfu to check this year’s phase 2B registration and asked for the breakdown of the applicants in terms of distance. -

Hi Red_Rhino, thanks for the reply. To add on, even if you qualify to register in Phase 2B as a PV, it does not mean you automatically have a chance to ballot in Phase 2B if you stay > 1km of the school. -
Hi anxiousparent,
Yes I have got the recommendation from clan and have register in Chong Fu under Phase 2B within 2km…
Waiting for the results now!

Hi Red_Rhino and ChiefKiasu,
Many thanks for your advice. I understand from my friend that St. Nicholas Girls accept kids with special talent such as gymnastics, the coach may put in recommendation to the school. Those kids with special talent thus has good opportunity to enrol in the school. Wonder if Chong Fu allows for such exceptions?

I have registered my girl in Chongfu in Phase 2A2 (old boy/old girl priority) and gotten a place. However, am still very concern about the daily travelling time for the rest of the six years since we are staying in Seletar area which is 20km away from the school. Not sure if my girl could manage it
We are within 1-2km to good school like Rosyth, Xinmin and Hougang pri but all these school are balloting in Phase 2C 1km in the past. We have called the schools earlier on and the advice was 'no chance'. Hence, we made a decision to secure a place in Chongfu despite of the long distance from home.
There is another new school, Fernville Pri, which is within 1km, we didn't want to register there due to very little information of the school.
If you were in our shoes, will you make the same decision? What other options or advices would you give?
Thanks! -

Did you manage to get into Chong Fu after the ballot? Btw, you may refer to chief's comments on Jiemin earlier in this phase. He commented that it is an above average school as compared to other neighbourhood school.... I was an ex-student there, was contempleting to register there earlier until I realised my home is within 2km from Chong Fu.
To add on, Jiemin is the 3rd school, which requires balloting in phase 2C for the past 2 years. Looking at the vacanices left, I guess it will be the same this year.
Best of luck!
