but i dont think they will be demoralized as these kids know they can do better. IMHO only.

I am not too sure abt this. Take for example the Art & Crafts teacher. His 1st assignment for the pupils were to research on an artist MC E... My boy then printed a few pages on this artist and brought the papers to sch. For this, the teacher awarded him a bar of Oreo biscuits which made my boy very happy. A few lessons later, my boy told me he hates Art & Crafts lesson. Reason: He was reprimanded by this teacher for forgetting to submit his \"Fruits\" assignment. According to my boy, he was scolded for being not taking pride in his work. IMHO, what has forgot to submit got to do with pride in work? If my boy does not take pride in his Art & Crafts work, he wld hv pestered me to complete the assignments for him and also not pestering me to buy the full set of shading pencils.

I do not know if this teacher is a full time teacher (who understands child pyschology) in PH, but every time I asked my boy what's the art assignment, he wld tell me he does not understand what the teacher said exactly

My point: every child is different. For those who are more emotionally sensitive (like mine), the teacher must be very careful in his/her disciplinary measures. I do not wish my boy to come home one day and tell me he hates MA too.

I did mention that the FT keeps a record of pupils who forget to complete and submit their assignments. Now my boy calls up his classmate everyday to check. I find this very stressful for all parties. I also wish he stops doing this but he wants to be 100% sure he has not missed out anything. Hiaz.

        Hi, P4 parents,

How many Chinese 造句had your child done so far? I checked mine, only one. But according to yesterday's CA1 letter, 造句(一)and造句(二)will be tested? :?
I did not take notice. Will check his exercise book when I bring him home.

          Lizhi,

I am just wondering since CA1 will be tested till 第五课, do they have to do 习字 for 第五课. According to my dd, teacher told them to stop writing at 第四课. Next week, they will be having 听写/默写 on 第五课 so I find it strange that if usually the words were being reinforced by writing in their 习字 before 听写, why didn't they have to do it for 第五课?

Btw, how did your dd find the Science Quiz on Monday? Do you think that they were sufficiently equipped by the teacher (not the parents) to attempt the Quiz? My dd said that some of the questions were not exactly taught by the teacher but she could do them because of the \"work\" she did at home.

For my dd’s “习字”, I almost ignore it. I’m not sure whether the teacher will look over “习字” or not. For her “听写”, my way is I test her every day, try to let her memorize them by repetition. Once the words which she forgot, she would write three times in her own books. When she was in p2, she liked to write a word over ten times in order to get much higher scores from teacher, even she had such highly motivated, but I didn’t think this is a good ways as it would be a more or less mechanical model. But so far, my dd also has the problem, “take pen, forget character” (提笔忘字).
For Science Quiz’s problem, I listened to her mention, she could not sure her answer, so she had to check her tutor. When my dd1 was in primary school, had the same problem, then I recognized we should teach child by ourselves, except to follow the school’s science tingxie list, try to enabling a wide range of reading, enriching her knowledge.
How I expect the teacher to teach in china’s pattern, \"the force feed duck\", no need our parents to involve totally, but it is impossible.

          Thanks Lizhi. 😄

I have a hunch that it's an external instructor. Her Art teacher is supposedly her CL teacher but for the past weeks, art and crafts lesson was conducted by another man at the Art Room. They had lesson at the same timing with Responsibility 8. They were told to research on Vincent Van Gogh and had been assigned his works as homework for the past weeks. The instructor also rewarded the kids in the same manner by giving them treats after he had seen their \"master pieces\".

my DH and I always think that once my boy is happy to go to school every day, did not come back and say he hates the school is good enough. We think this is more important than the marks. of couse, Ds will got scolded for not doing very well for his study. Contradictory :?

Don't be stressed about this. some times, I think they just want to chit chat a while using this as an excuse. As I said earier, my son will received several calls almost everyday from his friends talking about homework and some times talking about games, etc. 😄

No wonder there was once my DD forgot to bring her art bag to school (with her artwork), she got so anxious and called me during recess time and pleaded with me to send it to her.

I initially refused to do so, telling her to explain to the teacher that she had forgotten to bring it and that she would submit next week.. but seeing how anxious DD got (through her voice, I mean), I decided to bring it to school for her.

                Now I know why...

What you said touched my heart. Children are innocence and naive. I hate the teachers/parents who reprimand to them. Sometimes when I saw some parents shout about to their children, I would be sad and worry to this children, want to stop their parents. But it is difficult make others to change, so we should let children know who really protect them in always. It is important for patents to protect and encourage children. A little encouragement from us can help our children feel more confident and capable. Don't listen to negative blaming, praise, praise, praise, positive reinforcement may achieve an unexpected great effect.

Hi, since dd is studying higher chinese ni PHPPS, appreciate if you can recommend me a good chinese private tutor ? I am currently using a tutor that charges $60 per lesson, 1.5 hr, 2x a week, and was told that this is considered very expensive given that she is not a school teacher (but have 13 yrs of experience tutoring students from nanyang, MGS, SCGS)… wonder if this is the market rate ?

I feel that if a child is only surrounded by praises all the time, he might not be able to survive the real outside world. A balance needs to be striked between the two.

My P4 boy's fine motor skill is a bit lacking. He's really not into arts stuff too. Fortunately, last year the CL teacher was the art teacher, meaning less than 5 art & crafts sessions throughout the whole year. So, this year art & craft teacher being so on came as a surprise to me and a \"torture\" to him 😉
