What is 4-in-1 please ?
IS this the 4-in-1 book?janet_lee88:
Hi Funx3,
I got the book 'Challenging Maths Problems Made Easy' yesterday and to my horror :!: it doesn't look like English to me...more like Greek..feeling really stupid. I just don't understand why primary school is this tough now.
There is no mention what level it is for...all the terms on non-routine, remainder concept, quantity concept, pattern concept, equal concept. :? -
janet_lee88:
Hubby just told last night about the P1 Maths taught to daughter in school when he signed the worksheets.
I was stump a couple of times last year when my dd came back with some of those questions. Time has changed. -
janet_lee88:
Can I say your son is mature for your age ? I dare not say that for my son...still waiting for him to wake up. I don't pile on more work for him, but ask him to do selected questions for practice. As for Science, I ask to do some practice for P5...read through P3/4 notes.Jennifer:
Hope you can share your experience how you prepared your child for PSLE then. A million thanks !!
I am going to disappoint some parents here. Becos I did not do much with him other than making sure he went to bed by 9.30pm, ate-play-rest well. And nagging him to read more CL materials.
Come P5 and P6, you will find that the sch is doing a great job (borrow your previous post \"pile like nobody's biz). How can we as parents pile some more?
Guess the most impt thing I did was to manage my expectation and learnt to let go as early as possible. If my elder boy did not wake up on his own and become an independent worker cum learner, he might not hv done well in sch.
So far he doesn't have tons of homework this year as compared to P4.
Yes, my elder boy is very sensible. A consistent performer since P1. Cant vouch for my P4 boy. -

Yes, after results have been released for CA1, ALL will sit up and panic to see how marks can be improved...there will be a mad scramble for assessment books/tutors before March holidays.
Popular will be smiling again .. MORE Business

Problem Now is she can Barely Complete her HW everyday ....
It is important to do re-visit every now and then to further strengthen the concepts and techniques. I also re-visit soem questions with my dd.Funx3:
The Problem Now Both My Gal and I Faced is ....
With So Many Examples shown, We Forgot How to solve them in P6 Now!
And SO Tired when she Come back from school that she Falls Asleep in the Midst of Doing Her HW.
Guess We'll Have to DO it this Week - Her T say will Reduce HW ....
Errrrrrr .... As of Yesterday, HAve Not Seen it Happening Yet ....
Sigh ....
  -
Happy Mama:
I advise son when he is grouchy facing the tough problem sums. Told him that success will be sweeter once he understands how to handle and solve thost problems...get down to work seriously and when CA is over, he can breathe easier.
Thanks for sharing Janet. Looking on the bright side, I think it's PH way of drilling their kids to achieve excellent results for PSLE.janet_lee88:
Hi Happy MaMa,
I don't know if this 'piling on homework' for P4 is the norm in PH but just be ready if it happens. At P5 this year, teachers don't give homework in terms of quantity but more in-depth.
All I can do is to encourage DD and give her all my support and keep telling her that her hard work (from PH) will reap results and she will enjoy the fruits of her labour when she gets her PSLE results.

Honestly, parents can buy but need someone to teach those super powerful Maths problems. -
Funx3:
The kids adjustment also play a part. There is a lot of different motivating an \"adjusted\" child and a \"yet-to-adjust\" child. Momentum is key and catch for \"burn-out sign as we drew closer to exams.Funny Though ....
The SA1, and Subsequent SA2 Results SomeHow Pick up (At Least for My Gal in P5 Last year) ....
And ....
With No Increase in Assessment Book, No Extra Tuition, No Change in Schedule for ALL CCA ....
Must Be It's something to DO with the Teaching in School ....
May Be they Adjust the Pace, or Refine the Way Lessons is Conducted to Tackle the Kid's Weak Area (Identified from CA1 Results) ?
