The STI has more downs then ups recently. Anyone brave enough to go shopping for shares?

wah you resurrected this thread !! any tips ? which counter to buy ?

Will be making a first buy at around sti 2950 level. Has a habit of buying slowly as is better to hve the prices come to you and average the cost to ride out the volatility.


Interested in counters such as Hi-Pi, Hu An Cables and UMS.

why Hu An Cables ?[/quote]
1. Copper products are in demand amongst the chinese mncs in energy business-electricity.

2. Growth company with a secondary listing in Taipei recently. So hve enough cash to ride out any storm.


3. An institutional investor who had partaken in cos such as Venture and Yangzijiang Shipbuilding earlier bought a 4% over stake at approx 40cts/shr. Inevitably, we will be coming in lower.

All bets are off if the board is unable to give a promising forecast going forward in its coming results reporting due this month.

The 4% over stake was taken by an instituitional investor directly not venture or yangzijiang. What i mean is that particular investor also has stake in the other two cos in earlier days.


The co recently issued TDRs at NT$13.60, comprising of 120 million shares.

1 Overall mrkt sentiment is poor. Chief amongst the reasons is mid-east political crisis which affects the emerging mrkt. Instituition traders use this as the main reason to transfer funds in our region back home.

2. Poor year-end results.
