      hi there! Pls help me with this qn

      Sam bought some vanilla cookies and gave 1/2 of them to Mike.
      Mike bought some chocholate bars and gave 1/2 of them to Sam.
      Sam ate 8 chocolate bars and Mike ate 16 vanilla cookies.
      The ratio of Sam’s vanilla cookies to chocolate bars became 8:1 and the ratio of Mike’s vanilla cookies to chocolate bars became 3:1.

        Need help again

        1. Tom had 2 boxes, A and B, containing an equal number of white beads. He divided the white beads in BoxA into groups of 60 and to each group, he added 4 red beads before stringing them up to make necklances.

        He divided the white beads in BoxB into groups of 90 and to each group, he added 5 blue beads before stringing them up to make necklances.
        When he had finished, there was no more white beads in either boxes and he had used 28 more red beads than blue beads. How many red beads did he use altogther?
        BOX-----------------------------..........................--A.......................B
        no of white bead in each gp.........................60......................90
        Ratio of white beads in each gp....................2........................3
        Ratio of no of gp.........................................3........................2
        Ratio of additional beads in each box.........3x4=12..............2x5=10
        ....................................................................6.....................5

        Difference of 6units-5units=1unit---------------------28

        Number of red beads used=6x28=168

        BTW LaiHeng, where did you get the question from?

          2. Jane and Shelia shared a sum of money.

          If Jane gave 1/4 of her share to Shelia, Shelia would have $400 more than Jane
          If Jane gave 1/5 of her share to Shelia, Shelia would have $154 more than Jane.
          How much money did they have altogther?

          ?
          After condition 1.
          Jane has.....................[....][....][....]
          Shelia has...................[....][....][....]{400}

          Reinstate condition before condition 1,
          ie Shelia returned 1/4 of jane's to her.
          .................................-------------20u-------
          Jane...........................[||||][||||][||||][||||]
          Shelia.........................[||||][||||]{400}
          ..................................----10u.....

          Now condition 2.
          ..................................-------16u--------154
          Jane...........................[||||][||||][||||][]==
          Shelia.........................[||||][||||][|||]{400}
          ..................................-------14u-----

          ..................................................2 u-------->400-154=246
          ..................................................1u--------->246/2=123

          They have................20u+10u+400=30u+400=30x123+400
          .....................................=4090

            3.A total of 350 children joined Camp A and CampB. Camp A was for girls and Camp B was for boys. THere were 2/5 as many girls as boys. More children joined in. For every 2 additional girls joined in Camp A, 1 additional boy joined CampB. Thus after the 1st day, there was an equal number of boys and girls. How many additional boys joined Camp B?

            No of girls= 350x2/7=100
            No of boys=350x5/7=250

            .......................Girls..................Boys
            Number of.........100....................250
            Joined.................2u.....................1u

            girls..............|[][]{100}|
            boys.............|[]{.250.}|
            ....................|--same---|

            1u-------->250-100=150
            150 additional boys joined.

                  Thanks. But I am not sure with the blanks between 18 and 36 :?

                  If it is like this : 1 , 2 , 3 , __ , 6 , __ , 12 , 18 , 36 then this is easily understood .

                  Regards

                      Hihi...totally understand your concern! This question is ambiguous in the sense that it confuses the student's understanding of factors and the \"normal way\" of completely listing them in ascending order.

                      The question should be worded as \"....all the factors...\" Strictly going by the position of the blanks (and why is \"9\" excluded by the question), then \"4\" & \"24\" would be possible answers. The \"number\" can be any multiples of 36.
