All school in Singapore are proper school.Hi, there:
My daughter is currently in G4 at a reputable primary school in Shanghai. We plan to send her to Singapore for further education some time next year. We'd like to get a proper primary school with Higher Chinese and English as 1st languages. After choosing the school, we gonna rent a apartment nearby, so the distance is not an issue so far.
Any comments will be appreciated.
This Thread here is for parents registering students coming from Kindergarten going to Primary 1.
Looks like it maybe the same as the http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/8/81/Education_in_the_United_States.svg. G4 is for age 9 to 10, which Primary 3 or Primary 4.
Depends in proficiency in English, normally will get into Primary School 1 or 2 grade lower, seldom same grade. -
Yes, my daughter is ten years old, in primary 4 in Shanghai. I was told that she might need one grade lower to get in school in Singapore. Sorry I may not get the right forum to discuss about it.
Although most of schools in Singapre are proper, definitely not all of them. I’m a foreigner, just don’t want to be confused. Probably it is a good idea to take part in AEIS. -
The education system here follow the syllabus determined by Education Ministry, the end exam is also the same. The only different is the syllabus is taught by different school using different recommended books and by different teachers.
There are only popular/famous/reputed school with longer and better history of producing "quality" students and those newer/shorter history so call neighbourhood schools. Your proper school probably refering to reputed schools since your child is from a reputed school in Shanghai. -
Hi, JonC:
Thanks for the info. it’s good to know before the decision made. Yes, my daughter currently studys in a reputable school in Shanghai. She will get to middle school next year in terms of Chinese Ministry of Education system. I was planning to send her to Singapore for further education, however I don’t know if international students only can get in the neighbour schools in stead of the reputable schools.
Would you please refer me the names of good schools which are suitable for international students, it doesn’t mean the top one as Raffles’ girl school as I heard. We may rent a apartment first, so no problem for the distance.
Thanks!

hi tina2001
once you have shortlisted the schools (reputable or neighbourhood schools), maybe you could give them a call and talk to the vice principal or principal to check on the procedures.
i am sure the schools would need your child to sit for some entrance exams.
we did likewise before we moved back to singapore.
cheers
p.s. do you mind sharing which school in shanghai your child is attending because i am thinking of sending mine over. -
