      sall:
Does that mean elective subjects are less challenging and less in content since it is non-exam? For Y1, D n T is non-exam subject?

D&T is not taking in GPA calculation.

Elective - not very sure because from observation, bio is the same but physics is not the same as non elective. This is only 1st term, so need more observation. Maybe you can check with the school.

From MOE website about A lvl syllabus

"You need not take H1 MTL examination if you have obtained a D7 or better in Higher MTL at the ‘O’ level as you would have deemed to have fulfilled the H1 MTL requirement. As MTL is an integral part of the ‘A’ level curriculum, H1 MTL cannot be replaced with another subject and students should continue to be engaged in the learning of MTL."

From my understanding, RV’s P is hoping all RV students can get at least B4 in O lvl. This is his initial expectation, he is hoping one day, the students can achieve the standard of A2.

              Dear All,

I wonder how offen your kids have to stay up till midnight to finish their homework? Do the teachers give them homework even on CCA day? Is this a normal practice that the history and geography teacher give out homework even before guilding or teaching them?

I was indeed impressed by the speech given by the principal during the sec1 parent’s meeting… "leave your kids with RV and we’ll train them… don’t waste your money on tuition, give your money to us, the teacher will organise remedial class for those who are weak on the subject… "
All these seem like another empty rhetoric.

Two months is probably too early to tell. Though I am skeptical with his promise. If he can achieve that, it will be a great feat never seen. He will need to have some ways of motivating the teachers beyond average standard. Rv's teachers are also MOE's teachers and they don't get extra pay. The reason why students in some elite schools perform better is because they have more U-degree parents and they know the importance of getting good private tutors.

So far dd sleeps at 10pm every night. When teachers give hw, they also give the deadline. So do those hw that are most urgent first, hw that are due the following week can be done during weekends or when they are free. So far, hw that are due the following day are short exercises and not so time-consuming.

For history and geo, they are given guidance before hw given out.
It’s not feasible for trs not to give hw on cca days. hw is to reinforce what they have learned for that day. The students should be mature enough to learn how to manage their time. When they step out into the workforce, the stress they have to handle will be many many times more.

Unfortunately, not all teachers are good in teaching. There are teachers who are good in motivating, character building, very caring but not in explaining and teaching. Or maybe the students just cannot click with the teachers to understand what the teachers teaching. So no matter how many remedial lessons that teacher organise, it still can’t help much. I am thinking, why don’t they swap teachers for remedial lessons? History teacher of class A can give remedial to students of class he not teaching. In this case, students might be able to understand?

One part i like about RV teachers, i have seen many billingual teachers. Non chinese subjectc teachers can talk to them on 论语. Chinese subject teachers can explain to them in English.

That is why I wrote previously that the parents should teach the child to learn through different explanations. If one cannot understand how this textbook approach the topic, then try another textbook or google the internet for different way of explaining. Or discuss with classmates or schoolmates in another class with different teachers. Last resort, is find a suitable tutor. Even then, if the way that tutor explain the topic is not suitable for the child, it won't help.

If they swap teachers for remedial lessons, the teacher will not know who are the weaker students or the topics they are weak in. Students got to adjust accordingly. Some classes are lucky to get v gd teachers, some just got to bear with the teacher for a year. If really cannot understand, ask classmates, read up on their own.
