Yes, GST is higher as the supply chain get longer but that’s because of mark up by suppliers. That why when possible buy from source.

During the CNY, I went to one of the warehouse sales for groceries. A 10kg of rice cost $20 compared to $24.50 during offers at supermarkets. Without offer, normal price is $26.80. See how wide the margin is?

        INNOVATE:
Whatever is the rate just pay. Somehow, even if GST is to be lowered, govt must generate income from other sources. End result still no difference.
With corporate as well as personal taxes coming down, where are the revenue stream going to come from? I'll be happy to keep it at current rate for as long as possible. I dont even dare think that it'll come down anytime.

Next up could be \"pay as you earn\" personal income taxes, maybe....

As one moves closer to retirement age, second/passive income must be able to sustain our way of life.

With costs going up with our stagnant income, how to have extra to have passive income? 😢

Since we are on this material planet, we simply cannot rely on our pay to retire comfortably.

As one moves closer to retirement age, second/passive income must be able to sustain our way of life.
u hv an obvious n valid point.
Why take with d right hand n return some with d left hand?
d tax burden on essential food items shd be removed -
dat would help d poor d most.

Our nation's investment income helps to offset the budget deficit. So, in our personal life, must acquire the knowledge to generate a second source of income to handle the higher cost of living. Otherwise, when reach senior citizen status, hve to face the prospect of taking orders from a young manager. That's dam pathetic.

Personally, I think this part is a personal choice. Eg. if you cannot imagine yourselves taking orders from a young manager (your kids' age), then one should work hard to reach a certain level in organisation. So at that age, they still need to listen to you.

But if it is a personal choice that we are contented with current, then we have the bear the consequence of that in the future.

Disagreed with your statement. An enterprising senior executive should be able to generate another source of personal income as at that level, he/she is highly competent and hve the financial means to take risk.

One cannot forsee the future which is full of uncertainities. Even when one reaches CEO level, his company make me takenover and thus face the prospect of losing the job.

Preparing for any nasty financial situation is the hallmark of our govt. This is something we as citizens can learn from.

People at that level would have the financial ability to plan for their retirement. Eg. investment, etc...

I've been through a M&A or even retrenchment exercises and I do observe that those of a high level is able to \"survive\" it even without a job for a while. Based on their talent, they are subsequently able to find something else and though quite a no. of them are in their 40's or 50's, they are able to find equivalent high positions in another well known mnc.

Agreed with your observation/experience regarding senior executives affected by M & A activities.
