Some parents with kids who do well may not necessarily put their kids in top secondary schools for fear of their kids unable to compete with others. That I agree bcos I don't think I want my son in top sec school if he get high COP.

I've ample colleagues and ex-colleagues who studied in poly then went on to further their studies in NTU/NUS with degrees/masters, one even ended with a Phd. Anyway of the 3 prominent local success stories I know of, Sim Wong Hoo & Olivia Lum studied in poly before right? Not sure about Peter Lim though but I got a feeling he didn't do a degree too.
Having said that, for me a diploma is the minimum qualification for most people to survive in the new economy. Otherwise it'll be difficult to support a family unless one has extraordinary non-academic skills set. -

Anyway, My Family has Been \"OFF\" Pork for Many Years already ....
So ALL Our Soup Base is Chicken (with a Handful of Soya Beans thrown in for Better Nourishment and Taste). Or Else it is \"Guan-Tong\" with Ikan Bilis, Or Beef Soup ....
However We have Not Gone Fully -Muslim Diet Yet ....
Coz We Still Like Bak-Ku-Teh, Cha-Sao-Bao, Cha-Sao, Sao-Rou, Lap-Cheong, ....

I thought it's because if your kids drink ABC soup regularly, then exam time smelly smelly also will get C if didn't study. If got study, will surely get As or Bs.

Same same .. though my dd seems to have a better flair in CL than her gor-gor, probably from the good influence from the TW CL teacher she had during her kindergarden days in MMI.She just told me this morning that she is going to copy down those Chinese words on the posters hang in the sch canteen, so she can asks me what they mean! I am so impressed! Ha!My dd attends Chinese Creative Writing Class at a Language Centre near my place. I didn't have time to help her with CL compo. It was a very small class, used to be just two girls, now three girls. It helps greatly as she gets to write one CL compo per week. The Centre was run by a group of PRC teachers. I had wanted to stop the class cos I find that she's quite busy and I wanted to keep her Sats free, but it was her who stopped me from doing that. She said she likes the teacher very much and enjoyed her lessons. I have personally spoken to her teacher too and they are very professional and will replace lesson for her even if it's just for her alone.
So, sometimes, it's not neccesary to go to branded tuition centre. If there's a suitable one in which it will aid in the child's development, a right fit, one she enjoys and improves, I believe it's the right move to outsource.
Actually, she likes Chinese alot and enjoys her PH CL teacher, Mr Wong's class too. He keeps her interested. The problem with her is she doesn't speak enough of mandarin so her expressions in her composition tend to be dull and eventhough the school gives good phrases for moxie, she can only memorise and regurgitate them during moxie but not internalised. However, I believe as long as we both don't give up, one day, it should come more easily for her.
My parents are Chinese-ed. I used to score A* and As for the PSLE, Os and As for CL, but somehow, I can't seem to influence her to initiate reading chinese storybooks on her own, like how she will pick up English storybooks readily.
Oh well...PH's CL standard is also high so I guess the school will also do their part to ensure good results ultimately for PSLE.
I just bought 4 CL books from Popular yesterday - 2 comics but impart knowledge on insects and dinosaurs & 2 light-hearted books for my son. Guess what, to incentivise them to read CL books, I have to resort to 'bribery' - I will give them $2 for every (approved) CL they read, but the $ can only be used to buy other books (of coz will be EL books lah!) :lol:
Win-win situation - they get to buy their dream EL bk, I get them to at least touch the CL ones! Not sure whether this will work? Wish me luck
