MP Sin Boon Ann plea in Budget 2011 debate:
FOR some children in Tampines Central constituency, the best hope in educational achievement is to do well enough to get into a polytechnic.
But for a child studying in a top school in Bukit Timah, this very outcome would probably be seen more as a failure than a success.
Anyway of the 3 prominent local success stories I know of, Sim Wong Hoo & Olivia Lum studied in poly before right? Not sure about Peter Lim though but I got a feeling he didn't do a degree too.
Having said that, for me a diploma is the minimum qualification for most people to survive in the new economy. Otherwise it'll be difficult to support a family unless one has extraordinary non-academic skills set. -

I didn't think it was a big deal, yes he is not affluent, just comfortable but i know his parents and relatives thought he was 'failure'. It took him some time to look beyond such criticisms and to recognize that he has different strengths, and results and qualifications weren't everything.
