I'm sorry to hear that. But like what some of the others said, CA1 is only 10%. Still got SA1/2 to catch up.

Hi markfch, thanks for your joke. No worries, I'm not in a bad mood, just waiting to see the papers to see what went wrong and how the subjects can be improved. I worry even more for SA1 as there will be Compo and Oral. This catch-up game is no fun at all.

My son's results went downhill from P3...picked up a little at the end of SA2 in P3/4 but still the overall was pulled down by CA1 & SA1.
This year's Parent-Teacher meeting is brought forward...hopefully teachers can advise how to improve for SA1.

Dun be too upset. Do you know how the entire level fares? Maybe it is a set of tough papers? Like the P4 EL papers, my girl told me that 9 of her classmates scored 60+, dropped from 90+ or at least 80+ last year (my assumption), could be very tough.

CA1 is only 10%, there are lots can be done. I am sure he would not be alone. Is he in Loyalty 1?

Janet, fret not... Your DS is in Pri 5, ours in Pri 3... So it's different and no basis for comparison la. I cannot imagine how my DD will fare when she goes Pri 4 and then Pri 5... and finally PSLE.

I agree, Janet, P5 n P3 is a big jump.. take it positively that you can find out what happened; was it the techniques of answering or did the teacher really set a super high standard, or something else and work on it with him. I'm sure he will do better with this experience behind him Press on ya? :celebrate:

IJJ, he is in Loyalty 1.

For Chinese paper I, highest in class is 28/44. I believe the Maths paper is tough, but my son is weak to begin with.

It is not necessary just due to educational level ... it can be family upbringing, economy factors, individual personalities, era in which the person is from, etc...
I think he (Mr Sin) is mainly talking about the general cohort and parents expectation rather than success in life.

Yup agree. Luckily nobody else is in the same class as both your dds, otherwise it'll be very stressful for the remaining mum .....

I thot all the xxxx1 are students with stronger Maths? No?

Well, look forward ok. When you get the papers, go through and see why is he losing marks? Because of carelessness, non-routine questions or because he is unable to grasp some concepts. Pin-point at the root causes. Strive to work closely with him. Help him to identify and help him to look for ways to solve the causes. One thing about Maths, understanding concepts is very important, after understanding, must practise and practise. There are some maths topics mine was weak in, she targets in and practises repeatedly.

As you work with him to find out ways to improve, take care of both yours and his psychological well being, ok.
