Hi Luanee,Luanee:
I think the reason why kaitlynangelica is deliberating is because she has 2 choices: 1. MGS (old girl sure gets in) and 2. PHPS (within 1km high chance too as this year ballot 1-2km). I think that if kaitlynangelica doesnt stay within 1km of PHPS, she would surely enrol her child in MGS right?
For ppl like us with only one choice, we dont have the luxury of thoughts
If I was staying far away, may consider sending my child to school nearer. I used to stay in Jurong and a lot of pp sent the child to Rulang there. I am just wondering what is the big deal since everyone keeps on telling me how lucky I am. My husband and I are both from ACS and MGS and we both don't understand why pp are so desperate to get their child into these schools. Sad to say, perhaps its because we dont' have that sense of belonging to our alma maters. Also, we both have the agreement that these schools tend to be filled with kids from rich families and we don't want our only daughter growing up with the wrong values.
Hi, im a newbie in this forum. i have a nephew registering for P1 this year. u seem to be the right person to confide in. i am looking at Pei Hwa due to its christan background, mixture of surrounding environments (HDB, Condo, private) and chinese culture. i have friends and colleague's children studying in Pei Hwa, heard that the teacher are very proactive in communicating with the parents. however, my nephew falls under Phase 2C. i am in dilemna whether to
try our lucks. is the balloting meant for ppl within 1-2Km cos we out definitely out of 2km. Pls advise me. thks a million. -

...So when you are in a ballot, even the chances is very high, there is xx possibility that YOU could be that unlucky one. So do go for a guaranteed plc if there is a choice to avoid disappointment!!
That's exactly what we have been telling parents all this time
. Sometimes, it's just not worth the stress we put ourselves through to get into that very popular school. We put up our stats and rankings on the schools primarily to warn parents of how difficult it would be to get into those top schools.

Hi jlph, for PHPS under phase 2C, balloting was done usually for those staying within 1km or 1-2 km only. Last year, 22 parents balloted for 6 places for the 1-2km category. So if you are out of 2km, my advice for u is to find another school. -

2 years ago, 31 of us vie for 23 places in Keming Primary under 1-2 km. We were one of the 'lucky' 8 that did not get a place. I immediately placed her name in the waitlist (#1) and just few days before school term began, we rec'd a call that we got a place. Hence, if you DID not get a place, you still stand a (very small) chance by registering child in the waiting list. (But, no, we did not take up the offer then. She changed her mind. ) This is not to raise your hope high, but just to let any of you know that if you are caught in such situation, this is one alternative you can do.rugrats_pat:

In case anyone is interested. I went to attend Nanyang Pri Registration Talk last Sat.
They have 390 places- 13 classes of 30 students.
They have already 180 places taken up by phase 1 this year.
About 45 for Phase 2A1 based on the Alumni letters they have given out and 30 PV going for Phase 2B. -

Eh?? I was pratically on NYPS's website daily the whole of last week, but I didn't see anything about a talk??
I'm definitely interested. Besides the places info you gave above, any other important info?? Could you provide a summary?
Thanks a bundle!! -

I will not qualify for any phases except 2C.....but I teach in a Methodist school but not MGS Sec though. Is there a possibility that my principal can pull strings for me? Anyone in my shoes or was in it before? -
Don't think that is possible, you have to play by the rules of the games where in Phases by MOE.

Wow that mean left 35% of places in Phase 2C? Like that at 1Km also have to ballot is it?

Maybe, but don't let people know or you won't be very popular!
