You mean Mdm Chen? Yes, she is Twk9 FT, why cannot meet then?

my son said she will be very busy for her own class and the column for math teacher's location is also empty in the form.

      Surely not?

My boy misplaced the form, I emailed the FT to get a time slot.[/quote]Not sure, Jennifer. may be today the teacher will fill in. Yesterday, no time slot was given and ds said will give today.

According to my son 造句 must make a longer sentence in between use one comma. Last year, we didn't follow this and only got half marks for each 造句. This year 吸取教训, die die must follow, he got full marks for his 造句.

So far, for P1 and P2, they were not so strict although teachers did emphasise on bringing out the meaning in the sentences. It was during the class practices that we realised that P3 teachers will penalise if the sentence only has a single fullstop. Apparently, it seems incomplete. For eg. During one of the practices, my dd wrote for 参观: 老师带同学们去参观玩具工厂。 It was penalised so instead of teacher's suggestion of adding \"大家都很开心\" after a comma, we changed it to add \"大家都学了很多知识。\" to learn for the exam if it ever comes out.

However, it's not for all cases, sometimes one full-stop is enough if the sentence is meaningful. For eg. 自由自在: 五颜六色的风筝在天空中自由自在地飘来飘去。 is good enough.

I also reminded DD several times before her CL paper not to write short abrupt sentences. I told her those are ok for P1 and P2, but Teacher will definitely penalise her if she writes those in P3. She giggled whenever I teased her about short and abrupt sentences. 😉

Agree totally. Sometimes I have problem explaining to my dd why her original answer is wrong as I myself could not agree to the teacher's modification.

            Lizhi,
关于造句, 老师从小一开始就已经强调尽量不要写太短的句子, 因为不能真正把词语的原意表达出来, 所以我吩咐女儿要发挥,句子当中一定要有至少一个逗号。 在考试前一天, 她练习造句, 并把二十个列句给背了起来, 而且所出的五题都全中了!
Didn't know that!! Thanks for the 指点。

            应对考试,E3做得相当出色,感觉指导方法狠,准, 稳兼具,实在是值得我们好好学习。
Totally agree. I'm her 100% fan!! :udawoman:

It's ok, lizhi. 80+ and 90+ is just that one mark diff when it's converted to 10%. I felt PH will continue to raise the standard for CL and we just have to be constantly on our toes. I am glad the \"含糊不清\" questions came out at P3, the earlier the kids are exposed, the better. One of my ex-colleages who is a CL tutor now told me not to just let my dd do many OE comprehension, instead ask as many of our own questions based on the passages as possible, on top of those given. Keep probing to make them think. Due to time constraints, I only asked her to verbally give those simple answers for some questions but write down those that requires deeper thinking. Now, I know I shouldn't rush thru, I should discuss the passages and \"talk\" about it, \"ask\" as many questions as possible on the context of the passage.

One good point he mentioned, read widely. Dd has no problems with EL OE compre, possibly cos she read widely and has a maturity for questions that require in-depth understanding. I guess her marks lost at CL OE compre was not exactly due to her immaturity, she is just not exposed to expressing herself well enough for those \"reading between the lines\" kind of answers in chinese.

Different class, different CL teacher, I guess. My dd's P1 teacher highlighted some short sentences and discouraged them from writing that way although at P1, those sentences were still marked correct. She will give good sentences but due to the P1 kids' limited vocabulary, she can't give them P3-alike sentences.

My dd's teacher didn't specifically instructed them to have \"commas\" in their sentences, it was my own assumption. Furthermore, 造句 shouldn't be too rigid. The whole idea is to express coherently and meaningfully. Dd quoted one of her classmates wrote for 优点: 我家的小狗有很多优点, 大家都觉得它很懂事. and was marked wrong.

In my opinion, the child could have read a storybook on a character 懂事的小狗 or she could have listened to the example of 大象有很多本领, ...so got 优点confused with 本领. Thus we it comes to 造句, I told my dd never, never personify an animal, unless you are specifically talking about a feature of that animal. It's better to use daily events or something you can relate to.

Actually, I don’t like her to memorize, it was my last resort cos her spoken mandarin 有限. Ideally is to express freely whenever you are told to 造句. I hope we can overcome this problem so in future every sentence can come out smoothly for her.

I wonder how the boy who always topped CL did this time. His grandparents are CL teachers.
