Jennifer:
My dd's teacher didn't specifically instructed them to have \"commas\" in their sentences, it was my own assumption. Furthermore, 造句 shouldn't be too rigid. The whole idea is to express coherently and meaningfully. Dd quoted one of her classmates wrote for 优点: 我家的小狗有很多优点, 大家都觉得它很懂事. and was marked wrong.S6169:
According to my son 造句 must make a longer sentence in between use one comma.
Your boy is good to remember this. Mine? \"Got meh?\", \"teacher did not say what!\"
In my opinion, the child could have read a storybook on a character 懂事的小狗 or she could have listened to the example of 大象有很多本领, ...so got 优点confused with 本领. Thus we it comes to 造句, I told my dd never, never personify an animal, unless you are specifically talking about a feature of that animal. It's better to use daily events or something you can relate to. -

It's ok, lizhi. 80+ and 90+ is just that one mark diff when it's converted to 10%. I felt PH will continue to raise the standard for CL and we just have to be constantly on our toes. I am glad the \"含糊不清\" questions came out at P3, the earlier the kids are exposed, the better. One of my ex-colleages who is a CL tutor now told me not to just let my dd do many OE comprehension, instead ask as many of our own questions based on the passages as possible, on top of those given. Keep probing to make them think. Due to time constraints, I only asked her to verbally give those simple answers for some questions but write down those that requires deeper thinking. Now, I know I shouldn't rush thru, I should discuss the passages and \"talk\" about it, \"ask\" as many questions as possible on the context of the passage.

One good point he mentioned, read widely. Dd has no problems with EL OE compre, possibly cos she read widely and has a maturity for questions that require in-depth understanding. I guess her marks lost at CL OE compre was not exactly due to her immaturity, she is just not exposed to expressing herself well enough for those \"reading between the lines\" kind of answers in chinese.[/quote]You are right, use widely... read widely... -
Actually, I don’t like her to memorize, it was my last resort cos her spoken mandarin 有限. Ideally is to express freely whenever you are told to 造句. I hope we can overcome this problem so in future every sentence can come out smoothly for her.
I wonder how the boy who always topped CL did this time. His grandparents are CL teachers. -

It is necessary to memorize good sentences, some paragraphs. only the problem is the limited time. Heard from my dd yesterday, R8's top EL girl, her CL is also quite good. a bilingual talent!Actually, I don't like her to memorize, it was my last resort cos her spoken mandarin 有限. Wow..way to go, Respy 8! Just heard highest for CL is 94 for Respy 9. The last year's top CL boy scored the same mark as my dd and it's not 94, though pretty close.
What's happening to Respy 9?? Must buck up...
Btw, call your dd, she has good news for you for her Science Section B.

The highest in P4 CL is now adjusted to 100.
My girl's class highest for CL is 99.5, by one of her kakis. She was :dancing: machiam it was her score. :lol:Mum1113:
Hi P4 parents
From all inputs, it seems this is the brief summary at whole level, kindly make any changes if necessary. This is to get an early gauge before Fri's meeting
P4 Highest in cohort
EL - 93
CL - 99
Maths - 97
Science - 92.5
Actually, I am more anxious to know the class median if not, average, rather than the highest. Some of these kids at the top...I 望尘莫及.

Oh this is my wish too. I told mine, now no choice, she has to memorise. The ideal is for her to master the language and use it freely and flexibly. That is the ultimate! Now still cannot..got to 死背书, for CL!
But of course...死背书 also must 死背with understanding of the meaning.

Finally gotten back all papers. Happy with DD's results thus far, with all 4 subjects quite consistent except English being her weaker subject. I just went through her CL paper and was surprised she actually scored full 15 marks for her 造句 and every other sections. She only lost marks in her Compre. :dancing: :dancing: :dancing:
By the way, she told me the highest CL marks in her class has been adjusted to 97 marks because of an error.
