      lizhi,

Dd told me that when FT went thru the science paper earlier, there were many answers that were supposed to be marked correct but were marked wrong. Many of them went up to her to \"claim\" marks. I think many of them will have their marks changed. Hopefully it's 皆大欢喜! I almost wanted to post a science question up here and it's similar to Jennifer and IJJ's question but looks it might not be necessary. Dd should get back her mark for this cos her answer was the same as provided by the teacher. I wonder what happened during the marking process. :?

      Btw, pm you.

        E3:
I find the answer for this EL MCQ Compre rather \"lame\".

Brief summary of passage from 1st para:

Two girls were waiting eagerly for the weekend to arrive as their parents had promised to give them a big surprise to reward them for having done well for their examination. They tried to get their father to reveal the surprise, but he was simply too tight-lipped. While their mother, knew about the surprise all along, she kept it from them too.

Question: The meaning of \"tight-lipped\" from the passage is __________.
        (1) refusing to comment on something
        (2) being secretive

I shall omit (3) and (4) cos they are way out in terms of the meaning.

What will your answer be (without checking any form of dictionary. Thank you)? P3 parents are not allowed to answer...sorry... 😉
i will think it is (1) if you ask me the meaning of \"tight lipped\". but the passage seems to use this word as \"being secretive\". i think the sentence in the passage is bad English.

Thanks, dyh. I am convinced now that if you just take the question without reading too much into the passage, the answer should be (1). The \"behaviour\" of the parents does somewhat lead the kids into thinking that they are \"being secretive\".

            Jennifer:

Another qn 35a) In which setup will the guppy be the first to die? Explain your ans (2 marks).

My boy ans the first part correctly, but no marks becos his 2nd part ans was marked wrong.

His ans: There was no air for the guppy to breathe in setup B.

Correct ans: The fish in setup B has lesser air becos the oil blocks the air from coming in.

my son got this wrong too. it seems the key words are \"lesser air\" the teachers are looking for. i really think they are too rigid in the marking.

Sorry, dd is P3 but came across this similar question while doing her revision. Her answer: \"The guppy in setup B will be the first to die because the dissolved oxygen in the water were used up and oil blocks the surrounding air from entering into the water.\", will that be ok? There is no indication of \"lesser air\" or \"insufficient air\".

                Mrsbongz:

See all the questions posted here this week, I'm starting to panic, I seriously doubt DS is anywhere near PH's standard!! Really envy that your kids all seem to cope so well.. :?:
MrsBongz, please forgive us. The questions are meant for discussion, not to cause any panic. It's better that you know some of these questions from the thread, then to let your ds face them point blank during exams.

I think in order for her to think this way, it seems pretty scientific to me already although I did have something to say about the \"entering into the water\" part. I don't quite like the word \"entering\", thought \"dissolving\" should be more appropriate. 😄

Is the report book given out today?

My boy is unwell again. Monday stomachache, ytd appetite so-so, this morning dizzy and vomitting. Likely to be a bug lurking around.
Report books given at SA1 and SA2 only, not at CA1. But T will share the \"A5 piece of slip\" showing Highest, Average and Lowest score in whole level.
Correct me if my memory failing me 🙂

Take care of ds, rest well now and skip sch now, is 'not-too-bad'
Afterall, exams over and results known ....
Then recharge and enjoy during March break 😄

😄 haha, I know, I take it as a learning point and that I have the advantage to buck up from now so that in time, i hope 🙏 , my ds will be able to cope. All these questions also gives us insight on the skill set that the teachers are trying to obtain from the students 🙂 really appreciate the sharing and pointers
