Janet,Hi mummies,
I hope to ramp up my gal's hanyu pinyin during the march holiday, as well as the other 2 subjects. She needs some serious attention as I've neglected her bcos of son's CA. Wish me luck.
加油! You sure can do it and your DD will know that mummy is putting a lot of effort & love with her too  :celebrate:
My 2 DDs are 3 years apart and I will face the same scenario when DD2 enters P1 next year..guess, by then I also need a lot of adjustments  -

My gal is not 7 yet as she is a year end bb...she is still very playful. Needs to motivate and encourage her to do her work confidently...as I always tell her, teacher in primary school doesn't have time to sit beside her and teach her one-to-one.

Good luck with your revision with your DD over the March holidays. Know what you mean, I've also neglected DD2 as I focussed on DD1 as she prepared for her P6 CA1. Let's 加油 together. :celebrate: -

for me, I thought my DS1 hanyupinyin with some 'silly' method.. I don't know the rule of hypy, so to make him memorize easily, and maybe fun for him. For example, when i am revising the first tone character with him, i asked him to move his arm horizontally. For second tone, move the arm a little bit down. And so on for the third and fourth tone... So far so good with this silly method.. hehe
Hi allseasons,
I like your 'silly' method of teaching HYPY. Very innovative & most importantly, it's fun & the kids will definitely remember it.

My P2 DS need some 'tuning' this coming March holidays too.. ..
Looks like all of us are doing some work with our kids over the March holidays...keke. All the best with your 'tuning'.

Tinkerbelle, hehee... it's so 'silly', sometimes DS1 laughed when I asked his the pinyin.. cos he needed to move his arm... But I don't know if this method will be aplicable to my DS2...
Janet and Limchen, I also like to buy assessment books. But we have so many already, I am afraid my sons can't finish them or I don't have enough time to ask them to do... So either to make my sons work hard or I have to work hard too.. To all mummy who love to buy assessment books: 加油 :celebrate: -

This March will be crucial to brush up daughter's work especially my older one's weaker areas. Son last day of school for term 1 today...2moro parent-teacher meeting. His form teacher told the class to work hard and play hard as term 2 will be tougher.Tinkerbelle, hehee... it's so 'silly', sometimes DS1 laughed when I asked his the pinyin.. cos he needed to move his arm.

I also like to know if there are any good recommendation for chinese assessment books. I bought Intensive Exercise for Primary 1 but find that there is no explaination on how to \"blend\" the hypy together. Are all the chinese assessment books like that? Should I use the chinese text book to teach instead?
Hi Mummies,
Sorry to disrupt the thread regarding assessment book.
Just wondering what titles/publishers you get for P1/2 Chinese. Maybe we can share useful titles instead of having to stand for hours at Popular combing through the shelves of books.
*Intensive Exercises for Primary 1 (Victoria Publications)
*Hanyu Pinyin for Primary 1 (Victoria Publications)
*Primary Chinese Practice 4+1 (EPH) -
Hi Kan,
I am quite particular about Chinese assessment book after using one which doesn’t make sense :x
My daughter’s hanyu pinyin is weak…most kids have problems with 2nd and 3rd tone, but mine can’t differentiate all 4 tones.
For ‘blending’ I find that the basics like ai, ao for eg, the child must know how to read the basic and then the ch, sh and zh will slowly blend in.
Find that the chinese textbook doesn’t teach much…those pathetic few pictures is not of much use…emphasize more on the ‘must know’ characters at the end of the chapter. -

I asked dd if she knows the basics like those u mentioned, sometimes she said yes and sometimes she said no... so mummy is all confused now... :? That why I am thinking of revising term 1 work with dd this march holiday. I have forgotten some of the hypy learnt so if the assessment book have guide on the blending, it is easier for me to teach instead of also refering to textbook. Just wondering if anyone have bought a good assessment on blending of hypy? Can share? :?:
Hi Kan,
