Heard about MSHS macbook programme. The students flip their macbook during classes and the teacher are able to interact with the students Mac screens as part of carrying out the lessons.

Skyjuice, did your ds pass his compo? My gripe is this thing about GCE standard of marking for English compo, and till now, no one has been able to give me an answer as to whether it is true that for single title topics, personal recounts are not allowed.

My DS did pass but only passed at boarder line! His compos usually are not bad and he is upset with his mark. I think Mrs Jeya is really overboard, we must do something before is too late!

          At least your ds passed.

I spoke to Mrs Jeya to clarify about the comment on GCE standard of marking, and she said she didnt want the boys to write out of context, which is why she said for single title topic cannot do personal recount.
She also mentioned that she was upset by my email, that I was harsh in my email.

I went through my email and found nothing harsh about it. It was a straightforward query on the standard of marking for GCE O level for english compo, of which I also sent the same email to MOE.

The Macbook is just a tool. A Windows notebook would do just as well. If your child has an interest in computers, as long as itโ€™s a computer, he will pick up the interest. I personally feel that a Windows computer is more appropriate because in the corporate world, Windows is widely used.

The Apple computers are only used in specialized industry like the Media industry.

Best to train our kids on what the corporate world uses.

I managed to request for a meeting for PTM on Thursday and went to DS school on Friday. I overheard a lot of parents complaining that the meeting being very disorganize. I guess the teachers are interested to see only parents whom DS is not doing well and not interested about the rest. Apparently, the teachers donโ€™t even know the boys. I was shock to learn about this because if the teachers have no idea who the boy is, how is he/she going to feedback about the boy?

I have no idea if she knew of it, because I sent both emails seperately.
However, the HOD replied me, albeit delayed, with the following response:

My apologies for my delayed response to your email.
I believe Mrs Jaya has called to clarify the matter with you yesterday.

I would also like to thank you for raising the issue. Your feedback is very helpful to us to improve on what we do in the classroom with our students.

I will be happy to hear from you if you should require further clarification.

You cc'd the letter to the HOD? It's good that your letter got some response.

This is what I understand from MSHS, schools these days are not really into teaching children how to use excel or word. What the school want to teach the children is media, creativity, design, modelling, cartoon design, collaboration etc. These apps are stable in the Mac world. The cost of maintenance for the school is also lower if students are using Mac instead of Windows.

Personally, I was a window user than I switched to Mac 10 years ago. Mac is without doubt alot more stable than windows
                        > no need worry about virus
                        > no crashes or blue screen
                        > All the MS office apps works in Mac but Mac iworks dun work in windows ๐Ÿ™‚
                        > A 10 yr old macbook is still very workable and updated apps still can run on it. Unlike window, every 3-4 years must upgrade hardware.
