Both language teachers were very encouraging and suggested great ways for my girl. I am glad to know that my girl has scored above her class average for at least 2 subjects (MS) and most probably CL too, more so because she was on her own to prepare and revise her CA1.

That's great to hear. I wonder if I ever dare to do the same for ds? Must wait for him to mature further and take cue from there. Btw, do you think your dd's independence is due partly to her living overseas at a young age? I noticed that international schools tend to focus more on character building rather than pure academic work.

brother markfch sure has different view one...

My dw and I have the same thoughts as you. Remove CA but keep SA for P2. But I think the power of PERI coming from the top is huge .. Even the P cannot stop it πŸ˜‰

agree with u. My friend's kids' school, no exams fr p1 to p2, she said was a nightmare in p3. So for her no2, she gives her test papers to practice consistently so as to ensure d child wld b able to handle exams better in p3.
Yalor yalor, just let ds do those test papers during P1/P2. But I'm going to chuck those textbooks aside for now ....... unless there is spelling that is. :boogie:

CL teachr was trying to tell me that while they r more lenient when marking p1 n 2 tests, they cant b too lenient n parents get a shock at p2 SA2. I told her thats not wat P said at orientation, but she said its a recent change n they r 'forced' to do it. But she assured me that they will inform us of the tests in advance n make sure e kids r prepared for the tests. πŸ™‚

That's what I heard .. No SA1 ... But P will be issuing a letter soon. The teachers are keeping mum on this.

Looks like this year's P3 is the unfortunate batch... 😞

I met all 3 teachers within 1 hr in the afternoon. No Q for FT, only 1 set of parents ahead of me for both CL and EL trs. Both language teachers were very encouraging and suggested great ways for my girl. I am glad to know that my girl has scored above her class average for at least 2 subjects (MS) and most probably CL too, more so because she was on her own to prepare and revise her CA1.

I only met EL and CL T and got to know that the Avg. for EL is 76 and CL is 90 or 90.5 for my son's class. How about M1 and Sci. avg.? anyone can share?
I also found that my ds's CL T is very helpful πŸ˜„

The chat I enjoyed most was with the CL teacher...no wonder my son enjoys his class so much...being young really helps inject 'life' into a subject which the kids dislike - Chinese. He explained how to improve in CL. Left the school after PTC feeling stressed but yet glad to know how to help him improve...hopefully πŸ™

Only his CL is above average...some relief.

U are lucky - or your son is lucky to have a good CL T, as we all know how impt is a T in influencing the students' interest in the subject, esp for CL coz that is the last subj kids like nowadays. Sad to say both my kids' CL Ts do not come across to me as those committed and inspiring ones 😒 . Esp my P5's CL T, when I asked her why my son seemed to make alot of mistakes in his HW, seemed like he doesn't understand the schoolwork. Her reply was - well, he is very quiet in class, so there is no way for me to know if he understands or not!!!! :!: I was shocked of her reply, and replied that she could ask him to answer questions to ascertain his understanding. She then defended herself by saying there are 40 students in her class, how can she asks everyone! Throughout the whole session, she stated all my son's behaviour that is not up to her expectation, nothing about how to help him to improve.

Hearing these irresponsible replies, I gave up on her. I am sure my son is definitely not the cream in her class and she is better off concentrating on others who speak up and understand and score! I told my son this T's style is not suitable for u and will definitely not help u to improve. Told him to depend on HIMSELF and prove her wrong! So pissed!

                      Hi JRLam

I am not too sure whether my ds has the same CL T as yours. What you have posted the comments by the T was exactly she said for my ds. I was somehow shocked when she told me my ds was quiet and didn't actively participate in class discussion. She said she only took notice of those that always answer her questions. She told me she doesn't know how to help my ds and therefore \"leave him alone\" sitting there !! The more I think about it the more I was very disappointed and angry. She is a very young teacher and \"don't seem very qualified\" to me to help the slow and weak in CL students. With her attitude - How on earth the weak can be motivated??

                        Hi LE ANN,

Yes, it’s really good and very lucky to have a good CL teacher esp when kids dislike this subject. He explained to us clearly how to stimulate his interest.
