I think 3G Abacus was invented by Singaporean and has more beads than the normal one.

I have intended to send my son for abacus course, but the minimal age is 4 years old and mine is 3. Does any one send their kid to those mental abacus course before? Does it work and help in mathamatics abilities?
I send my gal(just turn 3yo) to \"Monkey abacus, right and left brain training\" at bukit timah sc...so far she and my 4.5yo boy are enjoying it. u can google and find out more.

My DS does not like abacus, as he needs to do his abacus homework too.

After there for 1 year, planning to drop out. I think he will forget all the formular, if he do not practice. Abacus is not useful to him then.

There a new class in Bukit Batok starting on 3G abacus for P1-P6 children and I’m thinking of letting my kid try out… the trainer apparently has had been awarded best trainer for the program… problem is they have insufficient students to start the class… they need a minimum of 12 to start… currently have 5…

Pls PM me if you would like to have the link for more info…

I wonder why people send their children for abacus classes? I think it doesn’t help the child’s creativity - all it does is to turn the child into a human calculator. Moreover, it only teaches the child the 4 operatives. Math is more than just that and I think abacus cannot replace Math. A Child is better off by learning Math!

2 different type of abacus are used in training children:-

a)\tthe one taught at CMA abacus classes use ‘soroban’ abacus – ie. 1 bead at the top, 4 beads below. see picture:-

                    http://www.cma-sg.com/programme-whycma.html

b)\tthe one taught in 3G abacus classes use different type of abacus. see picture:-

                    http://www.3gabacus.com

may I know – which abacus is easier to learn, or master ?

iii) third type of ancient Chinese traditional abacus using 2 beads at the top, 5 below.

altogether, think there are 3 different type of abacus design.
of the 3 - which one easiest to master, or faster, or lesser formulae to remember ?
