Pixiedust,
Thanks.
I brought ds to browse through the series, and he says he only like one particular one as the rest of the questions can be found in past year exam papers.I yet to take a closer look at the book.
You bought the whole series?

Your kids are willing to do all this work during the march holidays? \"Pei fu\". Mine not interested at all. Major rebellion. Say it's holidays. *sigh*.Leanne,

Very true, Brenda.
Now , trying to sort the problem. Many ways can be used to solve the question. The thinking process still no good, so trains of thoughts quite messy when doing some questions.

Hi Brenda,
Really hope so.
I am not sure how ds can catch up on this, as the methods in solving the speed question still not very good.

Leanne
Hi Leanne
I think the only way is to expose to all types of questions that ask under speed and hopefully they gain enough experience to attempt to the questions.
Best Regards -
Pixiedust,
I actually dont want to teach in advance, but school teacher yet to touch on this topic and I worri ds cannot catch up, esp the lead time to sa1 is so short and this speed topic is not as straightforward , thus making it a special attempt to coach. How i wish ds school teacher can teach before that.
The rest, I din really teach and coach in advance.

Mommies, you are all still working very hard this term break!
Leanne, I bought based on strong recommendation of my neighbour whose dd did very well for PSLE maths. It is very unlike onSponge, A* booklets etc but more on the systematical thinking, visual spatial kind of questions eg. climbing stairs, expotentially how many boxes at position xth...those kind. Not grouped according to P4/5/6 or topics eg. fraction, speed but the type of problem so some are simpler and some more complex.
So you actually self-teach the maths topics before the school ?
So far I try to keep pace with the school but getting into term2 of P5, I am re-thinking.Leanne:
..Did you happen to buy the series of math tricks, think its by raffles or something like that ?Think have a few series.
Anyone bought?
The books are actually published by the same people running the speedmaths camps for P6s. For each type of questions, a fast method to derive solution is provided. I feel it still takes tutor/parent to explain the concept so it is understood instead of just memorising the procedure. -
Leanne, no problem. I only bought vols 1 to 3. I thumb through them and sticky selected ones to go through with ds. At the moment, I doubt we can finish all + the other topics. Near the end of Volume 1, there is ‘All the rectangles’ in 1 row/2rows. Could be your ds already quite strong in such questions ? In fact, one of the squares within the squares question appeared in ds’s recent CA1. BUT only 1 question.
On the cover of these books are details of the speedmaths camp which are also mentioned throughout this forum. I would like some feedback from you and/or Brenda if your kids go for them this year. My friend sent her dd last Dec and gave raving reviews but I fear it is too complex for my ds. -

I think what you had descirbed look like is \"pattern\" questions. Eg. How many squares are there in Fig. 100 ? -
