Hi,hl124273:
Hi, I will like to ask if you have a private chinese tutor that you can recommend ? I am thinking of replacing my daughter's private tutor that I mentioned some time ago in this thread. Thank you!
How much did you pay for the private tutor?
I am paying her $60 a 1.5 hour for my P2 who started with her since she was in P1 , and I just started my K1 younger gal with her and she charges $50 a lesson ( 1 hr) for pre-primary. My younger girl has little exposure to mandarin and hence I wanted her to start early. Also, both have lessons twice a week since that is the tutor's recommendation.
The rates to me are professional tutor rates. However, I feel that she is not producing results. My daughter was getting high 90s in Primar y1 PHPPS end of the year exam, and her recent CA1 P2 higher chinese result is only 85, losing most marks in her comprehension (15 marks for compre). Prior to the CA test, this tutor told me to go get the past yr exam papers and she gave them to my gal as home work and feedbacked that my gal is weak in comprehension and told me to get comprehension assessment books ( my gal has quite a few assessment books already). However, I see no improvement.
Also, last year, when my gal was in P1, I found out that the tutor dozed off during lessons though my gal. I casually asked if she's too tired (knowing that she has alot on her plate) which served as a gentle reminder to her and ever since then she has not dozed off. -

I forgot to mentioned - the current tutor teaches students from SCGS, MGS, Nanyang etc, no a qualified MOE tutor, chinese national with 13 yrs experience teaching in Singapore. -

E3 , your dd is amazingly sweet, asking for work after holiday trip :celebrate: .....After the trip, she suddenly felt \"lost\" and was asking for work to do!! I told her to do whatever she enjoys...and she started playing her favourite pieces on the piano, played with the guinea pigs, read and did Math and Science challenging questions! Haha...
Tomorrow she'll be going to a classmate's place to play. It's also her Bday so it's no work day.
this auntie can sayang sayang her and wish her BD
Coindentally her BD is the same as my nephew who turns 3 yo today, so it's also party time for my kids tonight

Hi JRLam - next time plan the TT without letting your kids know what's instore for them, then less complaints from them, but more surprises later ..hehehe....
Wow! That sounds like the perfect, ideal child that every PH parents will like to have  So sensible, she definitely deserves a great day tomorrowE3:
Lizhi, good of you to restrict. Dd uses the computer to check mails, work on the SpellingCity and the Science Cards for the google docs which FT assigned. She only played games on the iphone or ipad.
Dd wanted to enjoy our trip so she completed most of her homework last Thursday after the Leadership Training Course. Although she reached home late, she stayed focused and completed main bulk of it. She finished her ๅจ่ฎฐ this afternoon with pictures from the trip.

I have planned her timetable for next term and we'll only start our engines next week.

Haha, I just plan the timetable 1 month in advance and my kids are already complaining ..

Is it the price-performance ratio too lower? How about to find 2 or 3 tutors in difference time teaching, then you do screening to them. Although i have some freinds whom came from china, and do chinese tutor in singapore, i would like not to do recommend as i dont know their actual ability. -

Once a week tuition is not sufficient to pull up the marks for PH's CL papers if your kids are not using enough mandarin. My dd used to be very good in CL, and speaks only mandarin. She had a good foundation. Nonetheless, I still let her do CL practices as often as possible, and read CL storybooks because she is speaking more of EL now and finding the CL's standard getting tougher. Though much work had been invested in CL, still, her CL CA1 marks dropped by about 6 marks compared to last year's CA1. I guess in order to do well for PH's papers, the tutor needs to truly understand the standard of PH's CL. I have seen many school's CA1 papers, none can really match up to the difficulty of PH's CL paper. Just my 2-cents.hl124273:
