Wow $20 per hour is a good rate ! How did you find her, through friends' recommendation ? I called up a tuition agency and was told $60 an hour is the market rate for professional tutors. Another friend of mine told me that the school teachers charges 60-80 per hour .. ok mine is $60 for 1.5 hour, so that works out to be $40 an hour.

I am paying her $60 a 1.5 hour for my P2 who started with her since she was in P1 , and I just started my K1 younger gal with her and she charges $50 a lesson ( 1 hr) for pre-primary. My younger girl has little exposure to mandarin and hence I wanted her to start early. Also, both have lessons twice a week since that is the tutor's recommendation.

I thought $40/hr for lower pri is alot  . Mine is charging $20/hr, and she is very sought after by alot of parents in my place. Her students include RGPS' too. Also, I don't think lower Pri needs twice-a-week, in my opinion, unless they are really weak (which yours are definitely NOT with 85 marks in P2 CA1), or those from non-Chinese background. Upper Pri maybe a different story though.

Unfortunately my tutor's schedule is fully-packed, otherwise will recommend u to her. She told me she has to turn down interested parents ..

PH sets tough papers so that PSLE seems 'easier'. Hubby and son redo CA1 Maths and the Section B kept hubby thinking until close to 1130 last night. I showed the recent CA1 CL paper to tutor so that she knows the standard and questions given.

Tuition once a week and I have no idea how to groom him for compo 😒 Same goes for EL compo.

I recently bou a EPH's PSLE English Model Composition by Lee Lin Cher. It covers many types of compo topics, coupled with suggested approaches, a set of vocabulary and exercises. So far, I hv got my P4 boy to read page 1 to 11 (pointers on how to write a good compo).

Crossing my fingers his work gets better review this time.

        Hi Jennifer,
Thanks for recommendation...title looks familiar. Since you hv an older boy who has done PSLE, do you find that P6 books are different, in the sense that teachers will recommend what titles are useful as compared to lower/mid primary?

So fast march holiday coming to an end. DS still left with his arts homework outstanding which is making a bookmark.

It’s a bit though unnerving that I haven’t received PH’s letter on the abolishment of CA/SA for P1 & 2s. Are they having 2nd thoughts, or it is just lull period due to march holidays. With luck, maybe even P2 SA2 will be cut, keke.

Just curious... Does anybody know how many GEPers PH \"produced\" last year? Is there anywhere in the website that we can find this info? I was having lunch with my friends and they posed me this question. πŸ˜‰

DS wrote in his handbook, the h/w for the holiday as a) make a 8x18cm bookmark b) the CL h/w you mentioned above and c) EL h/w as well. The EL h/w is in the Reading Activity card. Iirc it's to choose one task between items 1-3, and one more task between items 9-10.

Think for items 1-3, it's to write a book review.

Think for items 9-10, it's either describe the first day at sch or write a letter to your good friend in sch. Needless to say, my ds addressed the letter to your ds πŸ˜†

Soli I'm not able to be 100% precise in my answer as currently I don't have access to the Reading Activity card. I'll pm you later if I find out that I've made an error after I checked the handbook tonight.

Somebody mentioned, PH \"produced\" GEPer 10-20, since the ratio of boys to girls is about 7:3, or 3:1, so I guess the number of the girls will be selected is about 3-6. but the GEP standard, nobody said that, even some friends, and PHT. I heard some special cases were, top 1 student didnt go into GEP, but level ranking ard 40+, got it...
For exactly GEPer number of last year, let us call Comfy... πŸ˜‰

                        Thanks for replying, Lizhi. πŸ˜„

Yes, I understand that in some cases, the very intelligent ones may not be GEPers and there may also be some dark horses.. So the ratio of boys to girls is 7 : 3? Is this statistic for 2010? I heard in some batches of GEPers (overall, not PH alone), the ratio of girls is higher than boys, though some of my friends tell me otherwise. So it really depends on the year whether boys or girls are stronger. πŸ˜‰
