do you find that P6 books are different, in the sense that teachers will recommend what titles are useful as compared to lower/mid primary?

During the elder boy's P5, it was a must to buy Fabian Ng's (in the booklist). Same for P6 year. After Jun hols, the teachers ordered the PSLE series exam papers for class practice. And the MA teacher ordered a challenging MA prob sums for the whole class, not sure whether other classes also the same.

For EL, the T recommended a compreh assessment for those weaker pupils. I dun hv the title.

I was quite hands-off then, did not check out these extras ordered by the Ts.

My P4 boy's Ts had never recommended any titles.

Is there art homework? DS said there's only chinese hw and the nursery rhyme.. are there anymore?

I believe they will only give out the letter after school reopens.. why waste postage πŸ˜›

DS wrote in his handbook, the h/w for the holiday as a) make a 8x18cm bookmark b) the CL h/w you mentioned above and c) EL h/w as well. The EL h/w is in the Reading Activity card. Iirc it's to choose one task between items 1-3, and one more task between items 9-10.

Think for items 1-3, it's to write a book review.

Think for items 9-10, it's either describe the first day at sch or write a letter to your good friend in sch. Needless to say, my ds addressed the letter to your ds πŸ˜†

Soli I'm not able to be 100% precise in my answer as currently I don't have access to the Reading Activity card. I'll pm you later if I find out that I've made an error after I checked the handbook tonight.

Aiyo....we are only aware of CL hw leh...that's all.........is this diff for each class? I do not see any art hw or any EL hw at all.....in ds handbook.
Even for the CL hw....we had to go and ask his classmate staying in my block cos his handwriting was so illegible and when we asked him...he just said he dunno. :stupid: I hope we hv not missed out anything... 😒

I'm quite sure that different classes have different h/w cos I've another friend whose ds is in a different class from my ds and the h/w given was different.

          mrsbongz,
Just read the handbook and also double confirm with ds. What I mentioned above is correct. There's really the EL & art h/w to be done during this march holiday. It'll be totally out of character for ds to write extra optional items for h/w in his handbook  .

Mine is in int 5......so i guess from what mark said...shd be diff hw for diff class then....just hope that nothing is missed....whenever instructions get a little more complicated from teachers, most of DS's answer will be \"i dunno\", \"i forgot\", \"I'm not sure\"..... :x

Interesting to note that there's a difference between the two. More interested to know why so ....
Because even if the GEP school train them .. they will still be staying in the school if the get into GEP. For non=GEP school, the student will be posted out .. into a GEP school. So the non-GEP school will lose a good student.

You're welcome and I understand your frustration. During jan, ds also exhibited the same problem. So I went into nag overdrive + some scolding + some threats which caused him to buck up a bit.

Phrases like \"I dunno\", \"I forgot\" from ds will be immediately counteracted by phrases from me like \"How come you can forget?\", \"Do you know that it's your responsibility .....\" and my fav phrase which is \"I don't care, you must remember.\"

Last phrase is not exemplary but it's just to get the frustration out from my chest.

Actually I was asking what do you think caused the diff in ratio between non-GEP 'popular' and neighbourhood schs that you stated (0-0.75 vs 0-0.25)

So they would bother to get involved and monitor their kids progress in general. So naturally results will improve.

Caveat .. I belong to the school of thoughts that gifted child also need to be trained and monitored. Just like the Olympiad sportsman .. clearly they are gifted in their respective areas and cream of the crop .. but if they do not want to work hard and train ... the result will not be there.

By the statistical calculation, the GEP probability is 3 times. πŸ˜‰
