Hi JanetHI Brenda,
A friend of mine advised me to get son to start memorizing the kai1 tou2 (introduction) and jie2 wei3 (conclusion).
Challenging Maths Problems by Ammiel Wan is too tough...think have to use Challenging Problems by Andrew Er to start with as it's not too tough'. Have to push son to improve in his Section A...intensive revision w.e.f tomorrow as there is SA1.
I personally find that kai tou can be as simple as possible as this section won't score high marks. Jie wei is quite standard as just need to remember a few different type of wrap up like good deed, lesson learn or feeling for leaving from place of interest or old folk home etc
More important is in-between 情节的进展 that associated with some appropriate cheng yu, ci yu etc.
As for maths, Challenging Maths Problems by Ammiel Wan is good that it provide the method when we come across similar questions in the exam paper section C.
BTW, as long as you have started practice in Section A and B now before SA1 then I think you will definitely see the good result by SA1. -

Yes, yes, yes. the ci yu and cheng yu is needed to bring up the marks...plus conversation. Actually CL compo is easier than EL compo because it's hard to go out of point for CL compo with 5 pictures.

I've got Fabian Ng's Problem solving at home. Got it during Popular 20% because neighbour told me the school requested kids at P5 to buy it...then teacher told class to use Onsponge instead. -

.. We started once a week since P4 and only see the good result recently. As such has to start as early as possible to build up the language.
Brenda, it is good to know that. At least gives me some motivation to keep pushing ahead. -

It's great to know you have seen the rewards...it's worth the hard work.Brenda10:

Son's Math teacher told me to let him enjoy last few days of Mar holidays as Term 2 will be intensive. I told hubby I want the rest of today off too

Yup... I have problems getting around to it too. We've been doing practice exams instead. I hope to get around to it more systematically for PSLE drilling after all topics have been covered.Chenonceau:
Back to topic, I like Fabian Ng's Problem Solving Processes in Mathematics. It has worked solutions and teaches the different processes systematically.
Thanks for sharing. I did not buy this book as I only get to know this title from the forum this year. I went to popular to flip through and agree it is very systematically. However, have to scrap the idea of getting it as we may not able to complete since we have exam papers and other assessment books on hand and on addition school have started given running revision sheets. -

I think the bigger break through should be come after dd had completed the whole series of 笑猫日记 during Nov - Dec last year. Like what Ms Tamarind has always mentioned in the forum that reading more story books would help to improve in writing.Brenda10:

Just to share, DD's maths tutor uses Fabian Ng's PSP as the basic maths staple. so it is worthwhile going through the book with your son.
But DD also finds that the Shaping Maths - Maths Builder gives her a good foundation. -

I would like to use it systematically too but we don't seem to have the time. There is Chinese to worry about... and SA1 is coming up so he needs to do timed trial practice exams.

Sigh... our poor poor children... and poor me too.
