My girl used to score avg 16/20 for her P3 CL compo. This year (P4), her first 2 compo scored at 11/20 and 10/20 shocked me. I read through, although I find that the 'twist' element is not there, grammatically, she is ok. She used some 成語,諺語as well as some 俗語(from the 默寫), but, obviously, these were not good enough for her CL teacher this year. I spoke to him during this PTC, he suggested read 大拇指, and that he was not in favour of them to read model compo books from the market. I suppose he was refering to P4 level, maybe a level or 2 higher should be good enough, but that is my guess. I requested that he provides the class with some model writings from the class itself so that we agar know what standard he is looking at.Mum1113:

Before receiving those model writings, I used 2 days during the past 1 week to coach her to use some great phrases flexibly. Make the stories more interesting....with twists to inject some emotions. I am waiting anxiously for her Holiday homework CL compo piece to come back. Hopefully, he is not asking for more, if not, my girl sure cannot handle.
There are 1 handbook for CL compo that I like to use. It is the 维多利亚出版社的小学生作文好帮手------好词好句. It is also available in public lib.[/quote]Thanks for sharing. I'm still not sure how to teach my son CL composition, becos my CL is lousy in the first place. So have to rely on the tutor almost totally. -

I don't write the tones on the flash card...think it's good enough if she can tell me what each one is. Present tutor found her weakness...she knows her textbook format too well but doesn't mean she knows how it is pronounced without the textbook.

Usually kids have no problems with 1st and 4th tone, but mine has problems with all 4. Tutor asked me to write out each hanyu pinyin on a flash card...eg a, e, o, iu, u, y, w, ang, eng, ong. You may want to write some notes/pointers on the back of the card for yourself like 'a' pronounced as 'ah'. Hope this helps.

For those parents with kids in P2 and upper primary like me, this coming SA1 is really no joke. it stretches from mid April to mid May. looks like a marathon for me. sigh

No explanation, just do the answers...even if she does many many excersises, but she does not learn much. :x This is 事倍功半.
This morning the current tutor ask me if I still want to let my eldest gal continue with her and omit my K1 ( both my gals have tutition with her) to lessen the cost .. but the quality is something that i have questions about now ..lizhi:

. Preparation for EL/CL oral have to start now, followed by EL/CL compo. By the time the written papers are close, my stamina has run out and I'm really breathless. If hubby doesn't take over, I would be very stressed.

I agree with you that tutors who only think of money is irresponsible.
My prev one went for holiday after SA2, doesn’t bother to ask how son did. I had to sms her to ask when she would be returning. The moment she returned, she smsed to tell me to increase fees to $60/hr for son w.e.f Jan 2011…so mad with her. Didn’t even see SA2 papers which I photocopied to show her. -

Yesterday my dd complain that it is not fair that P1 do not have SA1 and SA2. I told her too bad ... she missed it by 1 year
Ironically, she also miss the new school premise as well .. by one year
So for those P2 above that gotten trophies in P1, I guess the P1 trophies are very \"valuable\" now. They are now officially under the \"vintage collector's edition\"
