Both the current tutor and the new one have not taught PH before, but they had both taught higher chinese before e.g. AiTong, NanYang.
Not sure about familiarity with MOE standards or PH standards, right now, I feel that the current tutor does know PH standard as she commented that PH papers are much tougher than any other schools, even harder than NanYang.
I think being able to customise the learnings to overcome the weakness is critical to the success, so that the time can be optimised rather than used the time for marking the tonnes of tuition homework given. For the new tutor, I reckon I will need to partner closely with her ( and also come into this forum more often to understand how to help my child
)
to monitor the progress and give attention to areas of weaknesses.
The notice period is ridiculous in my opinion, there is no agreement since there is no formal offer and acceptance on both parties, so it does not constitute a legal case for sure. All the more this highlight her mercenary attitude and motivation.

Putting myself in your shoe, I will definitely drop the current tutor and try the new one. Simply because

I will terminate immediately, pay her for service she had provided. Period. Sue me if she likes.
Your dd is only P2, lots can be done. Don't fret. Although mine only ever had a pte for the 1st 6 months of P1 (CL), but this is my criteria for selection of tutor if I ever need one again.
1. Chemistry/rapport between the child and tutor.
2. Understand the moe/PH school standard and syallabus. - Some boasted a journalist or a high school teacher in China or whatever... as long as he/she is not familiar with moe/PH standard, will not able to focus and see result.
3. Patient, devoted and systematic. - Only with these, kids will build/maintain interest and be motivated to learn. My girl's ex tutor knew my girl's weaknesses and developed own worksheets to assess and strengthen them. She discussed strategies to work hand in hand with me to optimise resources and efforts.
4. Teach the child how to fish and not to put the fish right in front of the child.
5. Respect both the parents and the child.- Listen and discuss.

Advanced is not necessary bad. Most tuition centre today are pitch at higher level, so it is quite common. However based on your reasoning, I will probably change and move on. I keep getting the feeling that MONEY > COACHING for this tutor.

Yes, I find this tutor mercenary .. she told me upfront when i hired her that the tuition fees must be paid on time in cash, which is fine and reasonable .. but the part about missing tuition for 2 weeks during school holidays is way too much .. and she was asking me if my K1 need tuition from her in January and suggested that I let my K1 try her because PHPP standard is way too high .. I said ok , try once a week, and she charged $50 a lesson for K1 for an hour, which I told her frankly that I don't see any improvement apart from her teaching my gal flashcards bought from popular, and she said she has told me before once a week is hard to see improvement, and suggested I bumped it up to 2x a week, which I did last month and didn't feel it was money well spent. All points back to money. -

Wow...testing my memory leh!! Thankfully, my dd's memory is better than me. The teachers will let the P2 kids attempt last year's Papers 1 before the exams. If you check the content page of the Chinese Folder, I believe you can tell how many practices will be assigned to your dd by her teacher.E3:

I came across ε°ζζ in one of the newsstand. Its a new CL mag for lower primary which I think its worth a look. Costs $1.
The P4ers are using 倧ζζ as supplement reading material in school.
Btw, I have scanned the ι»ε for P4. Very solid CL. So far, no model compo book or guidebook is able match the standard. The phrases/sentences are great if the child can apply on compo/speech. I also learn from the list. Anyone wish to have a copy, pls let me know. I wish not to cause unnecessary worry so am not posting now unless the demand is there. -

It is more suitable for a Sec. students than a P4 student.
