[I can't even remember the CA1 format which my P2 dd just did .. hahaha ..

Did not know you have a P2 girl? Now we have another active P2 parent :celebrate:

Hi! how many P2 parents do we have in this PHPP forum ? I guess most of us are working moms ? I find this forum very very useful !

so you can imagine how \"advanced\" my gal is ahead of the lessons taught . e.g. school is teaching chapter 1, my gal is chapter 4 or 5.

Advanced is not necessary bad. Most tuition centre today are pitch at higher level, so it is quite common. However based on your reasoning, I will probably change and move on. I keep getting the feeling that MONEY > COACHING for this tutor.

        Just my 2 cents thought.

Yes, I find this tutor mercenary .. she told me upfront when i hired her that the tuition fees must be paid on time in cash, which is fine and reasonable .. but the part about missing tuition for 2 weeks during school holidays is way too much .. and she was asking me if my K1 need tuition from her in January and suggested that I let my K1 try her because PHPP standard is way too high .. I said ok , try once a week, and she charged $50 a lesson for K1 for an hour, which I told her frankly that I don't see any improvement apart from her teaching my gal flashcards bought from popular, and she said she has told me before once a week is hard to see improvement, and suggested I bumped it up to 2x a week, which I did last month and didn't feel it was money well spent. All points back to money.

for 看图写话 - is this considered composition whereby 4 pictures are given ? or one picture given ?

For english compo - 4 pictures given or 1 ?
This morning, my gal told me about her compo excercise she did in school , and gotten 7/10  sounds bad, ya ?
Hi E3, can you recall what was the story about in last year SA1 Paper 1? Just want to have a rough idea and set my expectation right before proceeding to coach my dd in this area. I think it will be tough for my dd...

Wow...testing my memory leh!! Thankfully, my dd's memory is better than me. The teachers will let the P2 kids attempt last year's Papers 1 before the exams. If you check the content page of the Chinese Folder, I believe you can tell how many practices will be assigned to your dd by her teacher.

          For EL:
SA1 - Two boys using a catapult to hit a beehive, the bees attacked the boys, went to clinic for treatment, ultimately learnt their lesson.

SA2 - Hit and run accident on the road. A boy was injured. Eye-witnesses noted down the car plate number, (then buy 4-D...hehe...😉), police, ambulance and paramedics were called etc.

          For CL:
SA1 - A classroom scene. A boy was distracted, not listening to the teacher conducting the lesson.

SA2 - A park scene. People exercising under the sweltering hot sun.

          a thousand thanks.....very useful indeed......

look like i will be able to see 1000 pages when i reach home later...
I came across 小拇指 in one of the newsstand. Its a new CL mag for lower primary which I think its worth a look. Costs $1.

The P4ers are using 大拇指 as supplement reading material in school.

Btw, I have scanned the 默写 for P4. Very solid CL. So far, no model compo book or guidebook is able match the standard. The phrases/sentences are great if the child can apply on compo/speech. I also learn from the list. Anyone wish to have a copy, pls let me know. I wish not to cause unnecessary worry so am not posting now unless the demand is there. 😉

No worries, she doesn't know the expectations yet. It should get better.

It is more suitable for a Sec. students than a P4 student.

  True true...many sec students cannot even read some of these words if w/o the HYPY.

I explain the meanings to my girl while revising. I do not expect her to use them just like a 'click' in her mind during compo/speech. I handpick some and teach her how to use the words/phrases interchangebly/flexibly. As long as she retains abt 20%, I am glad. If I come across some of these (or very similar to any) in books or articles, I share with her. 🙂

It's EL compo, not mandarin. I am kinda worried cos she has been attending learning lab eng since P1 and the learning lab materials focus alot on writing :?
