Hi, I am living within 1km of ACPS and 1-2km from ACJS. Intend to apply for phase 2C. In 2010, there was balloting for ACPS within 1km (APP 158%) and ACJS 1-2km (APP 119%). So for last year, it was balloting chances were better for ACJS 1-2km compared to ACPS less than 1km!


Of course, there is no way of knowing what will happen this year.

I read a few posts that some parents station at both schools and monitor the situation at 4pm on the last day to decide which to apply? I don’t understand how this works.

Any advice would be gratefully received. Thanks!

I haven't done this myself but I believe the process is like this - you register first at one school, eg. ACPS. On the last day, about an hour before registration closes, one parent should be at ACPS and the other at ACJS. The one at ACJS will need to be carrying all the documents for registration (don't need the docs for withdrawing).

If the situation at ACJS seems more favourable, the parent at ACPS withdraws and the parent at ACJS registers immediately after. If ACPS remains favourable, no action is needed.

Just need to make sure that you allow sufficient time to withdraw and register, so don't leave your decision to the very last minute. I also believe that in the case of ACS, there are many parents who are in the same situation as you, due to the priximity of both schools. So be prepared for a lot of changes in the last hour. My sister, who lived within 1-2km of a popular school in Bt Timah, went from confirmed place to ballot to no chance of balloting in the space of an afternoon, due to the flurry of last-minute registrations.

Will you be registering this year? Both ACS schools are wonderful, in my opinion, so I do hope you get your DS in. Best of luck!

It could also mean that if you withdraw and register at another school (say School B ) and A LOT of other parents have the same idea as you and all rush to register at School B thinking that their chances are good, that balloting may occur at School B too. Tricky!

eteo, the balloting table does not split the distance.


From what I read from another post in KSP, in 2010, there is only 1 vacancy left after 1Km in 2C for ACJS. So, it is definitely a better bet for ACPS.

i always wonder why there is no need for balloting for acs (p) under phase 2b.


seems that the school managed to have the exact no. of applicants for the last 1 or 2 years if i remember correctly. so do these applicants all live within 1 km or ??? :?

Perhaps more people had applied, but withdrew when (a) those living >1km realised that they would not stand a chance since those living within 1km would have taken up all the places; (b) those living within 1km didn't want to have to face a ballot and registered for another school where there would be no balloting (most likely ACJS, since many of those living within 1km of ACPS would also be within 1 or 2 km of ACJS).

very lucky for those who live in between the 2 schools, but a headache deciding which one to pick.

I was curious and checked the past 2 years registration history of ACSP. Noticed there were no balloting for P2B for those within 2km but unfortunately no chance for those beyond 2km...........

Hi, I looked at this site

Am a little puzzled.

For phase 2c, 1-2km only 1 vacancy.

But it says lower down that the balloting phase for phase 2c is 1-2km,
no. of applicants is 76 and unsuccessful applicants is 12. I can't see how these figures add up. Can someone help? I must be missing something obvious (as usual)!
