Hello everyone, just to update what is happening to my dd in her school. Well, it is one project after another project besides never ending list of school homework. Now I know why some parents don't send their kid to GEP even though selected. The programme seem to like to give them project 'big' one 'small' one for EL,SS & Sci. So parents interested in GEP, must be prepare to hear the word PROJECT (meeting).

You are so right! The problem they have to depend on parents to shuffle them to their friend's house to do the project. Not indept enough. Really tough for parents. Worse the deadline is so tight, really like working world. :x No wonder someone comment that they can do well in JC, well train so young and after 3 yrs + of practice, why not?
Thought they inform the parents of the \"coming pressure\".
I believe they are trying to stretch the kids. After 1-2 term, they will get the hang of it .. I believe.

Hi Periwinkle,

Yours truly here DESPERATE regarding SA1 Science topics. Emailed to school website asking for info. If Almighty and her team start reading this thread (maybe they are following), my identity will be known liao 😒 :?:

Hi Janet, dd's science T had not given her d scope yet. But i wil drop her T an email to check.

Don't bother. Since MR HOD has mentioned 'EVERYTHING', that means P3/4 and whole chapter of Cycles in P5 will be tested. Son was upset bcos his Science teacher made me repeat what she told the class, when he asked her what will be tested for SA1. I really cannot understand the mentality of the Science teachers in this school. Is it a crime to ask ?

So, is is the 'Teach Less, Learn More' approach ? I just cannot believe why the mind is so narrow. Yes, we want that mark but we also want to know the reason behind the mistake so that we can learn and not repeat it.

If the 1 mark is not impt, why was it deducted? isn't it to show the child that the answer lacks certain content and can be improved on? if the child is not concerned about the loss of marks, it means there is alot of room for improvement in the child's attitude rite?

I'm glad that the child has the drive to do better than just what is being churned out in school. πŸ˜„ The HOD's reply certainly shows his attitude towards the students' learning progress..

Just happens to Browse thru PH Web Site ....

PH Sc Results is Indeed Not as Good as the Other 3 Subj in PSLE 2010.

15.8% A*, 51% A = 66.9% (A* + A) > National Avg 43.2%
Now Is that Good? :?
I know if we compare it against national avg, it doesn't look so bad.. but if you are looking at overall score for the students, Sci is a weak subj that will pull down the agg score.. obviously alot of students score well for the other 3 subjects, so I am of the opinion that more students can be 'top students' if their science scores do not pull their grades down loh..

which is why I felt that it's rather 'wrong' for him to credit his 'learn everything' policy to producing top students in PH.. πŸ˜›

Maybe MOE just simply needs better science teachers/ methods throughout... πŸ˜›

Last SA2, my girl was confused with one of the questions. She spent time in the public library to read books related to it and posed her research to her Science tr over email. A day later, HOD Sci called my girl at home. The first question was, \"You did so much just for that 1 mark?\" I was on the other end of a connected phone. That, certainly did not impress on me as a professional educator. 😐

This is so typical metality of certain school educator/teacher in Singapore Ed system. He think student is so hardup for that one mark, very narrow-minded way of thinking. Never think of learning/sharing knowledge. That why std in S'pore is not interested in asking question and hence not encourage to be creative and proactive. And then the ed sys keeps promoting 'Thinker today and leader tomorrow', should say this to teacher.

Meaning = \"Beware, I May Be your Big Boss, One of These Days!\"

Certainly the mentality and tone needs to be worked on.
Oh My Gal Has Long Given up on Him already. In fact She Study on her Own.
As to the Mentality and Tone - Definitely Need Major Surgery and Updating .... πŸ˜› πŸ˜›

Oh yes, I found the reply reflects the narrow-mindedness of the person. Sounded defensive to me then too. Well, mine did this to satisfy her inquisitive mind, that 1 mark was immaterial to her. Thankfully, my girl was not intimidated or discouraged to discontinue such persistence in pursuing knowledge.
Kids Nowadays R rather Discerning, Knows when NOT to Listen to Immaterial Staff like that.
Kudos to your Gal!
