I also feel \"time is not enough\". So many good books and movies to read/watch. Problem with our Singapore education is that the kids are all swamped with homework, supplementary classes, CCAs and preparations for tests/exams. This is especially so for P5/P6 onwards. No time to expose them to wide variety of books, movies, songs, sports, musical instruments etc.

Yes. That's why we let dd on the ratio/songs while doing home work otherwise really hard to find time as they stay 4 times a week. Nevertheless, we still let her watch an hour cartoon show in the afternoon when back from school otherwise life become very boring.

Actually another thing about this hectic student life is that sometimes the kids are so busy that they don't have time with grandparents and cousins etc.

Like Brenda, I went to dig out our collection from Studio Ghibli and found we have quite a few, including :

- Tombstone for Fireflies

My ds' favourite is Princess Mononoke which is touted as \"The Star Wars' of animated Features\".

Some of the movies are quite deep, and most of them are about Nature and carries the Green Message. Our family enjoyed all so far. If you guys get a chance, you should visit Ghibli Museum in Tokyo. Good movies like these are the best way for kids to learn listening and oral skills in Mandarin. From 2012, the oral component of the Mother Tongue languages will be given greater weightage in the \"O\", \"N\" and \"A\" level examinations.

When my kids love a show, they will watch it over and over again, and even recite the interesting dialogues from the show.

If a child can speak very well, his creative writing will also improve. Students are now allowed to use dictionaries in PSLE exams, there is no need to worry about remembering how to write difficult words. Parents should focus on developing kids' reading and oral skills.

Most importantly, watching interesting movies in Chinese, will make the child think that Chinese is so cool and will be much more motivated to learn Chinese. The aim is for our kids to be willing to learn Chinese independently, so that we don't have to push them to learn all the way to O or A levels.

I'm not sure. However, think has come across the thread that people had no problem of getting the DVD from dangdang.

Anyone can advise?

I ordered many DVDs from USA before, and once from dangdang.com with no problems. If it is sent by mail, should be OK. But the SMH sprees do not allow DVDs, don't know what kind of shipping companies they are using.

My hubby and I both love 笑傲江湖 by 许冠杰 These movies are suitable for upper primary kids.
