Yes, most primary schools with direct affliation into good Secondary schools are raising the bar gradually for COP (cut off point), in gentle incremental dosage over the years ... to be fairer to those external students all over SG who are fighting /competing for entry into the same good Seconday school for one tiny spot.

these external students normally enter with minimum >=10 to 15 points higher than the privileged affliated primary school students.

on one hand it is good to enter a good primary school that has affliation.
on another, parents have to be on their toes watchful, to help their child.

really, being a parent these days is so stressful !

My personal opinion is that over the years, those good affiliated secondary schools will be in keen competition with other schools to compete for top students that they will raise their affiliation COP such that it will be far off from their external COP. Look at SJI, affiliation COP is only 3 points lower than external COP last year. Catholic High has been raising their affiliation COP yearly. If the trend continues, it will become a case of with / without affiliation is not going to make much of a difference.

yep, agree with that. getting a place in an affiliated pri school does not guarantee a passage way to the sec sch, esp so in the years to come. the sec schs have realised that they need to attract top students. to do so, they have to raise their internal COP, which will create more vacancies for non-affiliated studetns. this is happening to other schs, e.g. MGS, Kuo Chuan also.

Wonder how would this year's registration be like?

Will Qifa's intake cool down and what's the situation like for the rest of the primary schools... Can't Wait (though it is seriously stressful πŸ˜› )

                      Need some advise here..

DS is gg P1 in 2012.. As much as I would like him to get in Bukit View Pri Sch based on Phase 2C (on 1km range), I am worried abt my chances. Last yr the sch had their 1st balloting for Phase 2C supp, do you tink m taking a risk? I could actually reg DS in PEPS as am an alumni there, but I really dun wan to let him go into tat sch due to distance..

Any advise? Really appreciate it..TIA πŸ™‚

The usual advice here is to register your DS at your alma mater first in Phase 2A2. This is to ensure your child already has a place.

Then in Phase 2C, monitor the registration situation for Bukit View and decide what is the likelihood of getting a place. If chance is good, withdraw from PEPS, then register at Bukit View.

But seriously, I doubt there will be balloting in Bukit View in phase 2C for under 1km since they never had a history of balloting in 2C. Even if there is balloting for 2C this year, it will likely be for those outside 1km, or even outside 2km.

Nonetheless, it’s good to secure a place first in PEPS. Just a bit of extra hassle to do an additional registration and withdrawal.
