The more acceptable ans is \"2\". Cos rain is the change and birds are responding to the rain by flying away for shelter.

      Agree.
My child said more suitable answer is 2 because key word is 'look for shelter when it rains'.
It looks straight forward here, but will be tricky if the question is set in those type like
      (1) A and B
      (2) A only
      (3) B only

Yea, teh_oh, I also agree to your analysis - it is always tricky when comes to MCQ questions than to compare them with open-ended questions.

Can I ask, if this is set in the open-ended question and they ask, \"Please state your reasons for choosing answer (2) - what will be the most accurate way to answer it?[/quote]Hi Champion,
If the question is set like my example above, I will choose (1 - A&B). If the question is set like the one posted by Sexyviper, I will choose (2 - respond to changes). Then from there just try to get my child to write out something about the weather changes as the stimuli that results in the birds' response to fly away to seek shelter (and to add in 'ability to fly freely from place to place' if my answer includes 'can move by themselves).
Not an expert here, and just learning with you all. šŸ™‚

        Hi teh_oh,
thanks for the explanation; I am learning from all of the parents / teachers here too šŸ˜„

          Hi Parents,

          Need your assistance again.

          Q1
          http://postimage.org/image/2c3ahkfyc/
          Child's Answer: 1; Answer Key: 3
Child's Q: While plant need air to respire and the glass tank has air supply given out by the plant,
          (1) do mushroom need air to survive?
          (2) what do mushroom uses air for?
          (3) if mushroom does not respire the same way as plant ie gives out oxygen, how can it remain alive after five days?

          Q2
          http://postimage.org/image/2ylm4rx1g/
Child's (and my eventual) Answer: 3; Answer Key (and Husband's and my first answer) : 1
Child's Reason: Mushroom is not a plant, so Ans 1 is wrong.
Please confirm if we are on the right track.

          Q3
          http://postimage.org/image/2c3c53sg4/
          Child's Answer/Answer key: 3
          Child's Q: Guppy's body covering is 'hard'?

          Q4
          http://postimage.org/image/2ylr3dyis/
          Child's (and husband's) Answer: 2; Answer Key: 3
          Is the answer key wrong?

          Many many thanks in advance!

            Hi teh_oh

I agree with all your child's answer - especially Q1 (though in reality, all of them will die because of the heat trapped in the container) :celebrate:

              Hi atutor2001,
              Thanks for your replies.
              Can I ask...
              (1) what does mushroom uses 'air' for?
              (2) what do they use to take in 'air' (ie plants use leaves, we use nose/lungs, fish use gills).

              Many thanks. :celebrate:

                Hi teh_oh

                (1) Like all living things, mushroom needs oxygen to carry out cellular respiration to breakdown food (carbohydrate / glucose) into energy which is needed to stay alive. (I think it is covered in P5)

                (2) There is such process called \"diffusion\" where oxygen from the atmosphere can enter the cells directly. Therefore, the mushroom can carry out gaseous exchange directly with the atmosphere, taking in oxygen and giving out carbon dioxide. For primary school, a common question is \"which part of the cells allow the cell to respire?\" and the answer is \"cell membrane\" which allows oxygen to enter the cell and carbon dioxide to leave the cell.

                Hope it helps.

                      Hi IJJ,
That's what my son told me.
That is the downside of working on past year papers; the answer key for MCQ alone for this particular paper has 3 errors.

Asked my girl these questions. For this, she also said 1. She said plants consume oxygen and give out carbon dioxide in the day and go through photosnythesis in the night, so in a way, the plant in the glass tank is able to exchange the types of gas it needs for days. As for mushrooms, she thinks they need both oxygen and carbon dioxide concurrently, and by placing the tank near window, they would not grow well under heat and direct sunlight.

She said 3 too. Mushrooms are fungi, not plant, and birdnest ferns are non-flowering plants.
