hi all

there was a principal's talk on Sat morning. didn't manage to attend. may i know what did the principal talk about?

      tks
The talk is about the same as the previous one in january. He also mentioned about 2 humanities and 2 Science for Y3, exemption from exams, CCA , CIP importance etc. During the qn and ans session, the parents asked non-academic qns like use of handphone, car stickers , pe short too big, what to wear on wkends, So I didn't have the chance to ask about why the students do 2 instead of 3 science at Y3. :x
In the past, students did 3 sciences , right?

Does 'Elective' mean an additional and optional subject, other than the minimum compulsory subjects? So is the grade taken into account when computing the total score of all the subjects?

Yes, additional and optional and not taken into computing GPA. But if one wants to choose the elective science as a main science in year 5, it is possible, provided u do well in the elective science.
seems like students in Y3 can only take 2 sciences, no more triple science offered. 😞 I don't like this, students who are strong in science should do triple science, even in neighbourhood schools, the top classes do triple science.

can still do a 3rd science as an elective right?

Yes, as elective. My guess is, to follow the path towards A lvl syllabus, not O lvl syllabus. One can take 2 h2 science subjects + 1 h3 science subject, so h3 is something like elective, right?
think year 3/4 elective science is diff from A lvl h3 science. h3 is only for those who r extremely gifted in that subject...a bit similar to S-paper during our times, though h3 and S-paper is different.

my guess is the school is trying to gear the students early towards A lvl. since A lvl need a contrasting subject therefore good to have a balanced combi in year 3/4. also no need to take so many subjects since A lvl only take 4 h2 or 3 h2 + 1 h1....only 4 subjects (excluding gp & pw).

if one is to take triple sci then cant offer maths as 4th subj has to be arts/humanities. think cant offer many uni courses without maths.

Is it always 2 humanities subjects for Y3? Heard that some Y4 are doing 1 humanities and 3 sciences. Wonder why they make 2 humanities compulsory. I feel that it’s easier to score for sc subjects than humanities.

my guess is to have a more balanced education. getting high scores should not be a major factor in subject combi selection. student may end up doing something they have no interest in.

anyway those who take triple sci in Y3/4 r not taking triple sci for A lvl as all of them will be taking math which will then allows 2 other sci subjects.

Ya, guess you are right. Anyway, they don't need triple sc to do any course in varsity, I think they need 2 sc for some of the course like pharmacy or medicine...

Heard that there is no retest for NAPFA test. Students in sports cca will be kicked out if they can't get GOLD  Another worry for dd... 😞

You'll be kicked out of your sports CCA if you don't get gold?? Isn't that rather severe? After all, you might excel in bowling but may not be able to do sit and reach?
