Best to call both Dunman and NYGH to check it it’s the same test. If it is, ask if it’s alright to take it at the first centre and ask the second school if they can check with MOE.

Yes, there are two sessions, one of them is Maths Olympiad Questions, another one is writting question, you should explain your solution clearly.
Hi wmd,Fairy:

Thanks!
My daughter got RGS shortlist notification last Saturday, she is preparing Math now, she will attend half day selection test on 11 July 2009.
How was the selection test at RGS? Were the questions like Maths Olympiad type?
Btw, NYHG sent an email to me a few days ago, they said that my daughter has taken GAT at RGS, no need to attend NYHG GAT, they will inform us final DSA result by end of Aug.
My daughter attended NUSH DSA selection test on 4 July 2009, have not received any info yet, waiting for the shortlist notification of NUSH camp.[/quote]Wow! Your daughter seems to have been shortlised for the three top schools! Congrats. As for NUSH, she will definitely be successful in her application as they welcome MAths Olympiad Platinum awardees with open arms. Looks like RGS & NYGH also. Now your 'problem' is to choose among the schools and that's a happy problem.
I did not let mine apply to these schools as she is not involved in any Maths Olympiad. Come to think of it, that's my greatest regret. ie. not sending my kids for MO training. Both my kids are strong in Maths; they would be able to get some award with proper trainings. I was working very long hours all these years. MO training has no priority. At this point, if my daughter can 'wake up' and start studying for her PSLE, I am happy already. -

Its OK Fairy. GEP student has already got priority and stand a higher chance of getting into all these top school, MO training is just extra money spent. There are mainstream students who could not afford to spend the kind of money for MO training get into top school thru PLSE result every year. There are also a lot of people who spend thousand over amt to get MO training but did not get a platimium/gold etc and eventually still get into top school thru PSLE result. Going round trying DSA takes time and effort too . If you don't get your first choice of school, you would still hope that PSLE could help.

Are there any numbers or proof that show that "GEP student has already got priority and stand a higher chance of getting into all these top school"? From my understanding, GEP students still need to have very good result in order to get into top schools. A lot of GEP kids got rejected by RI, so it is a bit unfair to say that they have "priority". Gifted program is very very different from mainstream program. It is very easy for a GEP kid to get 60% mark in a maths or science or english test. 85% is considered very top in Gifted program. So if top schools choose a gifted kid with 80% mark over a mainstream kid with 80% mark, I really do not consider that as "priority". Also, GEP kids spend too much time on non-PSLE related subject and material. They do not have as much time as mainstream students if you are talking about PSLE preparation. Sometimes you have to feel sorry for those poor kids. I do agree that DSA is very time consuming and it might not worth the effort. PSLE result is still the way to go - just my 2 cents.

There are a few girls from GEP who got into RGS via DSA but with PSLE scores of 240+. This would not have been possible without DSA. On the other hand, there may be others (mainstream) who could not get in 'cause they fell short by only a few points.

MdmKS,
My P6 child is not a GEP student. Of course, if she can get PSLE results good enough for these good schools, I have no worry. The probem is, my child is still in dreamland; totally not concerned about PSLE at all. She's at this 'rebellious-defiance cum devil-may-care' phase. -

I fully understand what you meant as my elder child (now in sec1) was from the GEP. They only started to get into 'PSLE mode' after Prelim but the GEP teachers did work very hard to prepare the kids at the last lap. -

I think this situation is not only peculiar to GEP. Those who got in through DSA Sports are also more likely to be those not meeting the minimum cut-off. -

This may not happen this year as DSA students have to meet the \"express\" requirements of selected shcool. -
